The team at Wildlight Entertainment has been “quietly working on a new IP for some time.” A group of 28 industry veterans founded a new studio called Wildlight Entertainment.
CEO Dusty Welch “created and launched the Call of Duty franchise during his 13 years at Activision and was the general manager of the Guitar Hero business unit,” according to his Linkedin profile; Welch co-founded the company. Jason McCord also established Wildlight Entertainment.
McCord has been the design director for several games, including Apex Legends, Titanfall 1 & 2, and Call of Duty games. After leaving Respawn Entertainment at year’s end, Chad Grenier will serve as studio head and game director. His former colleague Mohammad Alavi from Respawn will be joining him. Alavi reportedly worked on a single-player adventure game set in the Apex Legends/Titanfall universe before leaving the studio in 2021.
“We think the team we’re building together is special, and we don’t take that for granted. We bet on each other, and mutual trust allows us to take risks, foster new ideas, make decisions, and ultimately, make great games,” reads Wildlight Entertainment’s website.
At Respawn, only three of the 28-person team weren’t involved with either Apex Legends or Titanfall.
