Content Originally Published on April 20, 2022, Veteran virtual reality developer Schell Games debuted the first gameplay footage of Among Us VR today at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase.

But I have to say, the trailer really sells how much more dramatic the game could be in immersive VR, even if it’s pretty much exactly what you’d anticipate if you played the old top-down version of the game.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Among Us is a party game in which four to ten players try to identify the ‘imposter’ among them on a spacecraft. The objective of the impostor is to eliminate the competition without being discovered. In order to catch the imposter before it’s too late, the other players poll each other to determine who they think it is.

The game’s enjoyable social relationships, teamwork, and treachery shine through despite its rudimentary 2D visuals and straightforward idea. When you put on a virtual reality headset, the game takes on a much more intimate tone, and it may even be a little eerie when you hear footsteps approaching from behind you and you can’t be sure if a friendly face or your fate is at the end of the hallway.

We still haven’t received a real look at how the ‘tasks’ will play out in VR, but the clip up top makes it obvious that Among Us VR will stick true to the layout and core of the original map. There has been no word yet on whether the developer will merely adapt the existing activities or come up with brand-new ones tailored to the VR medium. Likewise, it’s unclear whether all or a selection of the original game’s maps will be included in the VR adaptation. We’ve made contact with the production company to get some answers.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to find out for ourselves until the holidays of 2022, as Schell Games has announced that Among Us VR will launch for Quest and Oculus PC in that year. The PSVR 2 version of the game will also be available upon the eventual release of the headgear.

Among Us, VR is available on Steam, Meta Quest, and Rift Stores. Please note, the game is currently available to wishlist and purchase for both Steam and Meta Quest: Meta Quest: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/4948428055244413/
Is Among Us Vr Coming To Quest 2?
Today during its big VR developer event, Meta announced that the indie game will hit Meta Quest 2 on November 10.
$9.99 Among Us VR, the virtual reality port of the 2018 online social game, arrives on November 10 and will cost $9.99. Initially announced at the 2021 Game Awards, Among Us VR allows you to play with up to ten players.
Standalone headsets
If you can swallow spending $1,000 more to avoid a Meta-branded gadget, the HTC Vive Focus 3 is the best standalone VR headset available. Its screen is higher resolution and has a wider field of view than the Meta Quest 2. However, we still prefer Quest 2’s controllers.
