Are your in-game taunts and insults going to get you banned forever? This could happen with the new rules for banning toxic players in Valorant.
On May 31, 2024, Anna Donlon, the head of Valorant Studio, talked about the community’s worries about disruptive players.
Valorant Announces Major Updates
VALORANT is currently one of the most popular first-person shooter games, enjoyed by both serious gamers and casual players. Recently, the game has faced a lot of criticism because of toxic behavior from some players.
This includes hate speech and rude comments in team chats. On May 30, Riot Games announced changes to their player ban system to address these issues.

Donlon explained that they often realize their system flaws only after someone experiences very bad behavior. Riot has been working on better systems and technologies, but managing a large global community is challenging and always changing.
In a follow-up post, they emphasized that anyone making harmful comments, even as ‘trash talk,’ will not be welcome in the game. To improve player behavior, Riot will update their policies within the next 30 days to have stronger and quicker penalties for severe behavior.
TLDR: we are taking actions to improve the state of player behavior in the game. If you want to make evil statements under the guise of “shit talk”, you aren’t welcome here.

They will also introduce new punishments, like hardware bans, increase support for manual reviews, expand the use of Riot Voice Evaluation to more regions, and review top suspected offenders from the previous game act to issue penalties.
Hardware Ban Comes to Valorant
Riot Games has shared some new updates for VALORANT:
- Stronger Player Bans: They will add more actions to the player-ban system. Penalties will range from temporary bans to permanent bans. The most severe punishment is a hardware ban, which stops the player from using their computer to play the game. However, this will only be used in very serious cases.
- More Staff: Riot will hire more people to handle the growing number of player reports. This will help them check reports more carefully and decide how serious they are.
- Voice Evaluation System: The Riot Voice Evaluation System, which is being tested in North America, is available in English. According to Anna Donlon, 75% of players who were punished by this system have not repeated their bad behavior. Riot plans to introduce this system to other regions and languages soon.
- Review of Past Offenders: Riot will do a one-time review of players who were reported during Acts 7 and 8. They will check if these players deserve a higher level of punishment.
These updates aim to make VALORANT a safer and more enjoyable game for everyone.
