Silent Hill 2 Remake Story
Silent Hill 2 is known for its intense and layered storytelling, and we wanted to keep that intact in the remake. While some events may happen in different places, their impact on the story remains the same.
They’ve introduced new locations, but we’ve tried to reference the original game as much as possible. This way, returning players will feel at home exploring the foggy streets of Silent Hill again.
The main characters from the original story, James and Maria, are central to our remake too. They’ve kept their emotional journeys true to the original, using motion capture technology to show their feelings more vividly. Sometimes we’ve tweaked their dialogue to add more depth to their interactions.
As many fans know, they didn’t use the original voices for the remake. This decision was based on creative and technical reasons. Relying only on existing dialogue would have limited us in making gameplay improvements like better player guidance.
Instead, they’ve brought in a new cast of voice actors. Luke Roberts and Salóme Gunnarsdóttir, who play James and Maria, have approached their roles with the same care and nuance as the original characters. We believe they were the perfect choices for these roles.
Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Character Models
It seems like every time Konami shows the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, fans aren’t quite happy. It started with the game’s announcement when Bloober Team, known for Layers of Fear and The Medium, was chosen to remake the classic survival horror. Many fans were unsure about this choice.
So grateful the Silent Hill 2 remake team listened to fan criticism of James’s design and fixed it Sonic the Hedgehog movie style to look more like the original bc he didn’t look anything like himself…why did he look like Edward Norton…who is this man lmao pic.twitter.com/9lJ9Fvyb8w

Now, after new footage was shown during the latest PlayStation showcase, State of Play, fans are upset again—this time, it’s about the character designs, which some say may not do justice to the original.

During the Silent Hill Transmission, which came right after the May 30 State of Play, Konami revealed 13 minutes of gameplay from the remake. In both the Transmission and the State of Play trailer, we saw protagonist James and supporting characters Maria and Angela. Let’s start with James.

Some fans like his new look, saying it’s an improvement from the initial reveal. But others aren’t so sure—they say his new design makes him look a bit like Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil, especially with the blonde hair that’s different from the original.
Then there’s Maria, a character James meets throughout the game, known for her confidence and sexy style. Fans are criticizing her new outfit, which is more plain and less fashionable compared to the original.
People who know the original game well say Maria’s outfit is very important to her character and the story. They’re disappointed that Bloober didn’t try to recreate the iconic details of her outfit in a modern way.
Instead of the leopard print and gold jewelry, she’s wearing a plain black dress and a jacket that’s the same pinkish color as her original outfit.
To make things more confusing, a short look at Return to Silent Hill, a movie based on the second game, showed Maria wearing her original outfit. Fans feel like Bloober might have made a mistake by changing her outfit in the remake.
