Apex Legends 120hz Upgrade: Dropping Frames Is So Last Season

Respawn has been a touch slow to get console players up to the level of PC gamers. Apex Legends only recently received cross-progression across all four major platforms, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC, in 2023.

With Season 20, the developer gives next-generation console users another much-needed boost to 120Hz gameplay. This update also allows players to use the PS5 controller’s haptic triggers.

With 120-hertz gameplay, console players will be able to compete with high-end PC users in terms of smoothness if their monitor supports the update. This upgrade may have a drawback since a developer stated that Aim Assist will be altered for consoles running at 120hz.

A developer for the game responded to a player’s concern on social media about whether aim help will still be set to 0.6 when playing at 120Hz.

Nope AA is adjusted when perf mode is enabled to accommodate for differences in tick rate

“Nope AA is adjusted when perf mode is enabled to accommodate for differences in tick rate,” they were quoted as saying.

The adjusted aim assist may not be immediately obvious, but as players on the Apex Legends Reddit pointed out, the frames gained by switching to a high frame rate will more than compensate for the lesser number.

“Because the game becomes easier overall at high framerates, they will reduce aim assist strength for next-generation consoles to compensate.” Or, more precisely, they will reverse the bonus aim assist that consoles have already received to compensate for the increased difficulty of low framerate,” a Reddit member stated.

Console gamers will have to test the game after the Season 20 patch is out to see if the new frame rate’s aim helps feel different.
