Detective Pikachu Returns is coming to Nintendo Switch this week, continuing from where the 2018 3DS game left off. If you haven’t played it before, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company just released a new trailer summarizing the first game.
In less than two minutes, the trailer recaps Pikachu teaming up with Tim Goodman to search for Harry, who is Pikachu’s former partner and Tim’s dad. The trailer also shows how they solved a mystery related to R, a substance that caused Pokemon to go wild.
They showed a case from the game, but it didn’t seem directly related to the main mystery of Harry’s disappearance. Similar disconnects between individual cases and the overall story that happened in the original Detective Pikachu game.
These seemingly unrelated cases often tied in unexpectedly, and it’s expected that this trend will continue in Detective Pikachu Returns as Pikachu and Tim keep looking for Harry.
Detective Pikachu Returns: A Different Story from the Movie?
The Detective Pikachu game gave the idea for the live-action movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. In both the game and the movie, Pikachu and Tim team up to find out what happened to Harry Goodman. At the end of the movie, it turns out that Harry and Pikachu merged, and Mewtwo is the one who separates them.
The Pokemon Company suggested that Detective Pikachu Returns might have a different story from the live-action movie. There’s a chance that what happens to Harry could be changed in the game.
