Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Fans are enjoying the game, but they have a burning question: Will MK1 have crossplay?
After a four-year gap since the previous game, Mortal Kombat 1 is finally here. Even though it’s a reboot, it’s holding onto the elements that fans adore, including its distinctive fighters and fearless finishers.
After the beta held in August, many players might be wondering if Mortal Kombat 1 will allow them to play with friends on different platforms and keep their game progress when switching between consoles. Here’s everything we know so far about crossplay and cross-progression in Mortal Kombat 1.
Will Mortal Kombat 1 Have Crossplay?
Right now, Mortal Kombat 1 from NetherRealm doesn’t have crossplay available. NetherRealm confirmed this in a tweet on September 14, 2023, just before the game’s Early Access release.
They said, “Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch.”
However, players on PC and Nintendo Switch couldn’t play together in the previous release. We’ll have to see if crossplay for Mortal Kombat 1 extends beyond just PlayStation and Xbox this time.
In the previous game, players from Xbox One or PS4 could play against those on Xbox Series X/S or PS5. But in Mortal Kombat 1, cross-generation play won’t be available at launch because there’s no planned version for the older consoles.
Mortal Kombat 1 Cross-Progression: Is It Possible?
Right now, we don’t have any information about whether Mortal Kombat 1 will support cross-progression. This means we’re not sure if players will be able to use their unlocks on different platforms. It seems unlikely, though.
Mortal Kombat 11 did allow cross-progression between consoles in the same ecosystem, like PS4 and PS5. But Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, so players need separate accounts on each platform.
