Hogwarts Legacy Community Manager: While the newest Hogwarts Legacy gameplay showcase revealed a lot about the game’s systems and tactics, it also gave the impression that combat would be quite straightforward.
Fortunately, it appears that wasn’t the case, as a pro played the game. A community manager for Hogwarts Legacy named FinchStrife took to the game’s subreddit to address some of the worries about the game’s difficulty, confirming that the gameplay showcase footage was played on normal difficulty by someone who has been playing the game dealy for a long time, making everything look easy.
Although the AI may appear foolish at times due to the crowd-control effects of inevitable strikes like the Unforgivable Curses, this is unlikely to be the case most of the time.
- The level of conflict was set to “average.”
- Andrew is a seasoned pro who has been engaged in this activity on a near-constant basis for years. You can take my word for it; he makes it appear effortless.
- Having and using all three of the Unforgiveable Curses contributed to the apparent “lull” in the AI’s behavior, as each has crowd control mechanics built in (AK causes a “fear” type of effect, you can see enemies cowering after it is cast; Crucio stuns and takes enemies out of the fight for a brief period; Imperio switches an enemy to your side, which removes an enemy and now divides the rest of the group’s attention). Also, Arresto Momentum managed to halt the progress of some of its foes. It’s partly due to Andrew’s natural skill at maintaining order and keeping the upper hand in a fight.

The Hogwarts Legacy Community Manager also discussed the Dark Arts Battle Arena footage, emphasizing that players won’t automatically have access to powerful Curses but would need to put in the time and effort to master them.
- You get a taste of all three Curses in the Dark Arts Battle Arena, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have access to them anywhere else. They aren’t required to progress and aren’t given out immediately. You can’t, for instance, pick up the AK-47 yourself. Without going into too much detail, we wanted to make it clear that we think it’s essential for the decision to learn and utilize spells like Crucio (which we discussed in the video for Sebastian Sallow’s Dark Legacy) to feel earned and to have the narrative weight to back it.
