Forspoken Release Date: While Final Fantasy is Square Enix’s bread and butter (and they are hard at work on the next installment), in June of 2020 they revealed a new JRPG for the PlayStation 5 under the code name Project Athia.

Many players were interested in this new release because of the game’s impressive aesthetics and the promise of a fresh set from the renowned JRPG creators. Little information about this exciting new endeavor was revealed after its initial unveiling. We just knew that Luminous Productions, the studio behind it, contained many ex-Final Fantasy 15 employees.

Since its initial release, much time has passed, allowing for the unveiling of additional information and perspectives on this game. Of course, the game’s name, Forspoken, is a major factor. The game’s story, gameplay, and release date have all been very well-described in the game’s trailers, extended gameplay demos, and development materials. Forspoken Release Date Speculation

We’ve had to wait for a long time, and now we’ve had one more (hopefully final) delay. As we learned through a Tweet, the developers have “strategically decision to move the debut date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023.”

There is an official statement that says all the game’s primary features are finished and that the delay is due to finishing touches.

What really piqued my interest was Frey’s dynamic movement through space.

The speed with which Frey operates is impressive. Extremely rapid. She not only appears to have mad parkour talents, but she can also use her magic to make her movement even more fluid, swift, and adaptable. She can apparently spin and twist in midair to increase her airtime, scale vertical structures with ease, and even launch a mystical rope to help her get where she needs to go. She, too, seems unharmed by falls from almost impossible heights.

Rather than being turn-based or tactical, it appears that battles can happen at any time, any place. Frey engages his enemies in what appear to be town squares, interiors, and open fields. There are many different types of opponents, from wicked humanoids with zombie features to flying monsters and even “freaking dragons.”

As for the specifics, while we have strong opinions about them, we cannot be certain. Large environments and a focus on Frey’s ability to traverse the terrain rapidly give the impression that the game will have an open world. In addition to the primary objective, we plan on including a plethora of secondary objectives, such as explorable locations, potential collectibles, and other such diversions.

However, we are unsure of the process for gaining new magic or the means by which your current magic might be enhanced. Can we expect non-magical solutions as well? Frey also appears to have a wardrobe system that seems to be linked to his armor and other equipment.

Thanks to this extended gameplay trailer, we can now see how many different aspects of Forspoken‘s gameplay will function in practice. We won’t go over old ground, but there’s plenty of interesting new stuff to take in.

Frey has the freedom to roam Cipal, interact with the locals, visit stores, and get new side missions. It’s not shown in the trailer, but she also has the ability to track down cats that may hold the key to her escape.

Once Frey enters the monster-infested realm of Praenost, we get our first glimpse of the game as it will ultimately be played. The grade in the top right corner of the user interface is the most important statistic to take care of. Combos, varying your attack methods and avoiding damage all contribute to your final grade, much as they do in character action games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

You receive more experience and a better drop rate the higher your rank is at the end of a battle. Slide strikes, spell strings, and first strikes are just a few examples of text prompts that contribute to a higher score.

The latest in a long line of new traversal tools is a spell that slows time and allows you to target seemingly any surface within range to tug yourself toward.

The use of mana also appears to be distinct from that of standard JRPGs and instead resembles an unusual form of experience points. Gaining access to new areas requires it, as does collecting it from various shining locations. When you have amassed a sufficient amount, you can use it to study new spells.

The game will reportedly feature around 100 new spells. The new magic wheel provides instant access to eight spells, with the option to view the full spell list. This is presumably how you’ll change which options are displayed on the wheel’s drop-down menu.

Towers (called belfries in-game) all across the world can be explored to search for hidden treasures, a signature Ubisoft feature. Pilgrim’s Hideaways are also known as safe havens in otherwise perilous situations. A location to rest, repair, and improve your arsenal in peace and quiet.

Last but not least, if you can track down some ancient relics and use some magic to purify them, you’ll gain some long-lasting benefits, such as increased health.

The next stop for the trailer is Avoalet. In the course of her tree-dodging antics, Frey discovers a treasure chest with some new equipment. The menu appears, revealing four empty spots beneath the cloak and necklace where any bonuses, such as resistance to dazing, would be displayed.

It seems that upgrading equipment is the best method to gain additional bonuses like these. The new items have a visual style that echoes Frey’s, which opens up some interesting options for personalization.

Your four different varieties of magic—purple, red, blue, and green—are displayed alongside your health and stamina bars. Journal, map, magic, nails, resources, and archive are other tabs we can’t access.

What platforms will Forspoken be on? As for platforms, the game will be released on PC and is a timed console exclusive to PS5. While the exact length of the exclusivity was unknown previously, it has been revealed that the game will be a PS5 exclusive until January 23, 2025.
Forspoken has parallels with Final Fantasy 15, though it should take care to avoid some of the big mistakes that Final Fantasy 15 made. Forspoken is being developed by Luminous Productions, a studio comprised of many developers who also worked on Final Fantasy 15. As such, the latter is likely to influence the former.
Forspoken is one of the more prominent video game releases players can expect in early 2023. However, if you were wondering if Frey Holland will have some extra help with a secondary player joining in, you’re out of luck.
