Syphon Filter 2 Plot
After discovering the Agency’s ties to Syphon Filter, Gabriel Logan and Lian Xing are branded as terrorists by the government only hours after the events of the first game. As a result of Agency agent Dillon Morgan’s detention of Lian at the PharCom warehouses, Gabe and the CBDC troops are now in Arizona, where they will meet with former Agency operative Teresa Lipan.
Gabe and CBDC Lieutenant Jason Chance descend down the mountain in pursuit of their jet and a box of PharCom data disks as the Agency scrambles a squadron of F-22 Raptors to intercept their shipment over the Colorado Rockies. Steven Archer, an agent of the agency, is making every effort to thwart them.
Mara Abramov, the head of the Agency, and Lyle Stevens, a renegade Chinese general, strike a deal for the delivery of the virus. While Morgan, Derek Falken, and Thomas Holman work with Dr. Elsa Weissinger of PharCom to harvest contaminated plasma from test victims, Lian heals in a U.S. Air Force installation.
Lian finds out that the second test subject was PharCom CEO Jonathan Phagan, who was shot but lived long enough for the Agency to remove his plasma. Weissinger argues that Phagan should be kept alive for scientific purposes, but Morgan turns off his life support to avoid the possibility that the United States government may discover Pharcom’s CEO afflicted with an unknown virus.
Lian makes her way out of the hospital and questions Holman, discovering that Morgan is planning another operation at the PharCom Expo Center in search of an encryption disk. After murdering Falken, she takes a chopper out of the facility and joins forces with Gabe to fight Archer’s men. During Archer’s attempt to flee, Gabe shoots him and takes the PharCom information.
Following Holman’s instructions, our heroes go to the Expo Center to stop Morgan from retrieving the disk. Teresa discovers a gap in the data after deciphering the PharCom transmissions. Uri Grigorov, director of the Russian SVR, showed up at the storage facilities just before Gabe departed, so the other half must be with him. Lian and Uri already had a common connection, so they set up a meeting in Moscow.
While meeting, Aramov starts a shootout and Lian goes after Grigorov. Later, Lian finds out that he is really an imposter working for Mara and looking for the missing piece of information. The guy confesses that he has seen Lian in the Russian gulag known as Aljir Prison, where the actual Gregorov is now being confined.
After Grigorov discovered a plan to sell the virus to Shi-Hao, Aramov stepped in. In order to prevent Gregorov’s execution, Lian nearly dies from the infection and passes out. Grigorov says he’ll take care of Shi-Hao, and Gabe brings him back to the States.
Freelance pathologist Lawrence Mujari greets Gabe and Teresa as they return to the Virginia safe house. They settle on a deal with the Agency in which they exchange the PharCom data for Lian’s vaccination. In the New York City labs of the Agency, Director Stevens betrays Gabe, but Logan escapes and blackmails Dr. Weissinger into administering the vaccine. The fact that Chance is still alive after the operation in Colorado allows Gabe to release him.
Gabe runs back to their chopper as New York City SWAT officers and Agency agents after him. A SWAT officer’s partner is injured, and Logan must cover for him. He does, but Stevens subsequently holds the officer hostage and forces him to put down his firearms. Logan shows signs of surrender, but Stevens still ends up killing the police officer. Teresa detonates an explosive device to send Gabe into the sewers before she shoots him.
As Teresa claims Chance never made it to the helicopter, Gabe has concluded that he was murdered there. Eventually, Gabe and Teresa surround Stevens, and Gabe shoots him dead.
When Gabe and Teresa arrive at the chopper, they discover Chance waiting in full body armor provided by the Agency. He was secretly doing their bidding, and he ended up killing Teresa. Since the Agency usually knew where to find him in Colorado, Gabe had a good idea that this was the case. There is a battle between the two guys, and Chance ends up being decapitated by the chopper blades because he was driven into them by Gabe’s assault shotgun.
With the Agency’s existence out in the open, U.S. Secretary of State Vincent Hadden has pledged an investigation. In addition to curing Lian, Gabe also marked Teresa’s tomb. While troops look on from a distance, he and Lian, and Lawrence conduct a little tribute and vow to continue the battle.
Hadden and Aramov emerge from a helicopter in the post-credits sequence, with Aramov predicting that the current administration would soon collapse, ushering in Hadden’s presidency. Despite having received approval from Hadden to murder Gabe and his squad, Hadden cancels the operation and tells Mara he has other plans for Gabe. As the screen goes dark, Aramov chortles.
Syphon Filter 2 Development
In contrast to the original game’s development, John Garvin and co-creator Richard Ham reportedly went into this one with a clear idea of the final product “All in all, I believe I was able to finish the script within the course of a weekend. I teamed up with Rich, and he helped me revamp the game’s second half, adding in the Moscow elements and making the climax seem more espionage-y and thrilling.
After [development team return, ]’s we spent the next year putting into practice every word we had written. We had never before started out with a clear goal in mind, but we made sure to see that one through to the conclusion that time “. The American-Indian Teresa Lipan, the African-American Lawrence Mujari, and the Chinese Lian Xing are just a few of the characters from different backgrounds that Garvin has included in his work, and he takes great delight in this fact.
In 2022, PlayStation Plus subscribers may play Syphon Filter 2 with Trophy support thanks to the game’s inclusion in the service’s premium library. As the first PS+ Premium title, it also supports both 50Hz and 60Hz refresh rates.
