Ubisoft, the video game publisher behind popular franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs, has a policy of deleting inactive accounts that have not been used for a long time.

However, the company has clarified that this policy does not affect accounts that have purchased PC games and that users can quickly restore their versions if they receive a warning email. You need to know here about Ubisoft’s account deletion policy and how to avoid losing your game library.

If you enjoy Ubisoft games, you can find out about the latest updates on games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Far Cry 5.

Why Does Ubisoft Delete Inactive Accounts?

According to Ubisoft’s terms of use, the company reserves the right to delete accounts that have been inactive for more than six months. The company says this measure complies with the GDPR requirements, the European data protection law limiting data retention period.

The company also says that this measure acts as a protection for its players against fraud. However, Ubisoft also says that account deletion follows a rigorous process and that it takes into consideration four criteria before deleting an account:

  • The gaming activity of the report since its creation
  • The account’s libraries: accounts that include purchased PC games are not eligible for deletion
  • The duration of inactivity of the account, meaning the last login to Ubisoft’s ecosystem (including from Ubisoft games on Steam and other platforms) — In practice, as of today, Ubisoft has never deleted accounts that have been inactive for less than four years
  • The existence of an active subscription tied to the account

How Does Ubisoft Notify Users About Account Deletion?

Ubisoft says that before deleting an account permanently, it sends three emails to the user over 30 days, offering to restore their account. The first email is sent when the account has been inactive for six months, according to the terms of use.

The second email is sent 15 days later, and the third one is sent 15 days after. The emails contain a link to cancel the account closure. In addition, if the user tries to log in during the 30-day window, they will automatically receive a warning and a link to reactivate their account.

Ubisoft Support shared a post on Twitter:

Hey there. We just wanted to chime in that you can avoid the account closure by logging into your account within the 30 days (since receiving the email pictured) and selecting the Cancel Account Closure link contained in the email. We certainly do not want you to lose access to…

How Can Users Protect Their Game Library?

The easiest way to avoid losing access to your Ubisoft games is to log in to your account regularly, at least once every six months. This will prevent your account from being flagged inactive and eligible for deletion.

You can also log in to your Ubisoft games on other platforms, such as Steam or Epic Games Store, as this will also count as activity on your Ubisoft account. If you receive an email from Ubisoft warning you about your account deletion, you should click the link to cancel the closure as soon as possible.

You can also contact Ubisoft’s customer support if you have difficulties logging in or restoring your account. Ubisoft says it does not want its users to lose access to their games or accounts and only deletes inactive accounts for legal and security reasons.

However, users should be aware of Ubisoft’s policy and take steps to protect their game library from being deleted.
