The Division 2 New Season Launch Delayed: Devs Admit to Breaking the Game

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2’s creators managed to screw up the upcoming update so badly that the 2019 game can’t be patched. That’s the tweet the developers of Division 2 put out yesterday to the fanbase.

The game’s core, along with all of its missions and expansions (and multiplayer modes), is still playable and available in the current version players have (on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One). However, this spells the end of the current season of the live-service game with no upcoming material to take its place.

Massive Entertainment, based in Sweden, led the development of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 alongside a team of developers from eight other firms, including Clancy’s own RedStorm Entertainment, which he founded in 1996.

Devs wrote in a message that they took down the build generation system for Division 2 while trying to fix a localization issue with the update that delivered the new season.

“As a result, we cannot update the game until this system has been rebuilt,” the developers said. In the past, the delayed launch of a new season would simply mean extending the old one. “Unfortunately, this is not possible in the current situation,” they said, “as we are unable to make server or client side updates until the build generation system is restored.”

Developers for The Division 2 have made good progress” and promise another update on Friday. Information on in-game compensation for the delay will also be forthcoming.
