A multiplayer space trading and combat simulation game Star Citizen is currently developing. Cloud Imperium Games is making and publishing the game on Microsoft Windows. Star Citizen is director Chris Roberts’s long-awaited second attempt at his canceled RPG Freelancer.
In September 2012, the game was introduced through a private crowdfunding page; on October 18, 2012, a Kickstarter campaign was launched and raised over US$2 million. The game was first in pre-production in 2010, and total production didn’t begin until 2011.
2023 Begins with a Bang: Star Citizen Alpha Takes Flight
The release of Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 has been pushed back to January 2023 from when it was initially planned to appear later this year. The developers stated in a recent blog post that they need more time to test the new version.
Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 will be available on Public Test University (PTU) servers starting this week, according to CIG, and will remain there until after the holidays. The update should hit the production server in the new year.
Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 is a significant update for players since it brings substantial changes to the Player’s Union (PU) in terms of content and engine technology that make the game run more smoothly and persistently.

Star Citizen’s Release Date Remains a Mystery
Like the whereabouts of Half-Life 3, the fate of Silent Hill Release date, or the arrival of a new Starfield video, the release date of Star Citizen remains a mystery. The space simulation and the trading game are still in alpha as of the latest release (3.17.2), but it has already raised over $500 million through crowdfunding.
Star Citizen’s official site, Roberts Space Industries (named after one of the in-game firms that make spaceships), keeps track of how much money has been donated to the game and how many people are playing it at once.
Star Citizen raised almost half a billion dollars when it appeared on Kickstarter in October 2012, about ten years ago. As of September 20, that sum crossed the galactic USD 500,030,039 threshold. The most recent patch made the game playable and added new ships, destinations, and delivery missions.

Star Citizen has been updated regularly since before its launch, but fans still wait for the game’s final release. New planets, ships, and activities for the game’s open-world sandbox mode will be introduced in Star Citizen’s upcoming 3.18 and 3.19 alpha updates, which are expected to drop in the third and fourth quarters of 2022, respectively.
The Squadron 42 single-player campaign, featuring Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman, has been in development for quite some time but has yet to receive a release date.
