Ubisoft made an initial announcement in 2020 regarding the “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake,” an action-adventure game initially released in 2003. The planned release for the reboot was set for the following year.

The official Prince of Persia Twitter account reassured fans that The Sands of Time remake would not be featured in June’s upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase. However, they assured everyone that the project was still very much alive. It is currently in the early stages of development.

Almost three years later, Ubisoft has updated this highly anticipated title.

According to a developer Q&A shared by the company, the game is currently in the conceptual phase. This update comes after Ubisoft Montreal took over the project from Ubisoft Pune.

During an internal interview with Ubisoft colleagues, producer Jean-Francois Naud it was revealed that they are currently in the conception stage of development. Naud mentioned that since taking over the project, they had carefully considered community feedback and explored their approach to delivering the game.

Naud further explained that the studio is focused on assembling its team, creating prototypes, and testing various elements. He emphasized that the development process is still in its early stages.

Ubisoft still needs to provide a revised release date for the remake. While Ubisoft may not be opposed to remakes in general, they actively remake the original Splinter Cell game. Although it has been in the early stages of development, it remains uncertain when it will be released.

We can expect an update on its progress sometime during the upcoming summer. Regardless, it is evident that remakes involve more than simply enhancing the visual aesthetics of an old game.
