NHL 24 Release Date, Editions, Gameplay and Trailers

Update (October 2026): NHL 24 launched on October 6, 2023, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. NHL 25 dropped the older consoles, and the newest entry, NHL 27, launched on September 11, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of late August 2026, NHL 24’s online modes were still running.

NHL 24, developed by EA Vancouver, was EA Sports’ hockey game for the 2023–24 season.

NHL 24 release date and platforms

NHL 24 came out on October 6, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. There was no PC or Nintendo Switch version.

Can you still play NHL 24 online?

As of late August 2026, yes. EA shut down online services for NHL 22 and NHL 23 on August 31, 2026.

At the time, Game Rant reported that NHL 24, NHL 25 and NHL 26 still supported online multiplayer. EA lists upcoming shutdowns on its online service updates page.

Editions and pre-order bonuses

According to EA’s store page at the time, NHL 24 came in two versions: a Standard Edition and an X-Factor Edition.

The Standard Edition included the base game, a HUT Power Up Icon Choice Pack and a World of Chel Battle Pass XP modifier. HUT is short for Hockey Ultimate Team.

The X-Factor Edition added:

• Dual entitlement, so one purchase covered both console generations
• Three days of early access
• 4,600 NHL Points
• An exclusive Cale Makar player item
• A HUT Power Up Icon Choice Pack and a larger World of Chel Battle Pass XP modifier

Players who pre-ordered the X-Factor Edition by September 25, 2023, also received a HUT Team Building Player Choice Pack.

What changed on the ice

Much of the gameplay was overhauled from NHL 23. The main changes were:

• New Total Control skill moves, which let players pull off complex dekes (moves that fake out a defender) with a single button
• A new stamina system and goalie fatigue
• A reworked passing system
• Physics-based contact

Crossplay in HUT and World of Chel

NHL 24 added full crossplay for Hockey Ultimate Team and World of Chel. NHL 23 only offered crossplay matchmaking, so this made it easier for friends on different consoles to play together.

What came after NHL 24

The next game changed platforms. When NHL 25 launched on October 4, 2024, it was only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Operation Sports reported.

The current game, NHL 27, launched worldwide on September 11, 2026. Deluxe Edition owners got seven days of early access from September 4.

EA’s NHL 27 FAQ lists it on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with crossplay between the two.
