Mortal Kombat 11: Some of us who were old enough to watch Mortal Kombat 3 games when they first appeared in arcades may still remember the moment we discovered the characters were really rushing across the screen and pummeling one another with violent combinations.

It seems the run mechanism didn’t exactly suit the mold Midway planned to take things in, since it has been gone for more than two decades. It was later used in virtually all MK3 patches and Mortal Kombat 4. However, we now have a video of a mod that incorporates running into Mortal Kombat 11.

Time to stir things up a bit! Ultimate is here and bringing a whole new fight with it! #MKUltimate pic.twitter.com/GaNs9q6FPT

Anaconda assembled and uploaded the video, but Ermaccer created the mod. On display here is the MK11 warriors’ prowess when granted the ability to move across the screen at a pace about double that of regular strolling.

There is a fresh possibility for capitalizing on particular hits and following up projectiles, much as there was in MK3 and MK4. This raises the question of how a zoning character like Cetrion could be affected by the implication of prospective punishments in otherwise safe scenarios.

One of, if not the finest character in Mortal Kombat 11, Cetrion has widespread acclaim. Her long-range attacks and defenses are unparalleled, but what if you could narrow the distance by this much more quickly?

In the video showcase, which is a compilation of clips and fragments displaying amazing possibilities, we witness Cetrion both utilizing run and being the dummy versus characters.

We assumed that, as in MK3, a meter would limit how often players could utilize this mechanism before it needed to cool down, however that feature is absent from this modification.

Check out the video to see what these artists have come up with, and then tell us in the comments whether you want to see the run mechanic brought back to Mortal Kombat.

Gameplay

Gameplay-wise, Mortal Kombat 11 is a 2.5D fighting game, the same as the previous three installments and MK Mobile. New game mechanics, such as Fatal Blows and Crushing Blows, join the returning Fatalities, Brutalities, Stage Fatalities, Friendships, and Qualities. X-ray special moves from Mortal Kombat X are the inspiration for Fatal Blows.

Fatal Blows, like X-ray moves, cause a lot of damage, but they are only usable when a player’s health is below 30%, and they can only be used once every match. Similar to most Brutalities from the previous game, Crushing Blows are a cinematic rendition of a certain special move that is activated when certain conditions are satisfied.

The Flawless Block mechanism is also unique to the series, and it gives the player a window of opportunity to retaliate after successfully blocking an attack. A revive option, similar to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3’s Mercy finisher, returns as well, allowing the victor to give their defeated opponent a second chance at life.

The Custom Variation feature, new to Mortal Kombat 11, allows for even more character customization than the Variation system did in Mortal Kombat X, much as the Gear system did in NetherRealm Studios’ prior DC Comics fighting game Injustice 2. The user may modify each character’s starting wardrobe, arsenal, and repertoire of special techniques.

However, in Mortal Kombat 11, the characters’ appearances do not impact their skills, enabling players to construct unique movie lists regardless of their character’s look, unlike in Injustice 2.
