L.A. Noire 2 After GTA 6? What the Resurfaced Rumor Claims

An old anonymous claim that Rockstar Games will follow GTA 6 with an L.A. Noire sequel is doing the rounds again. Rockstar has not announced any such game, and the setting and timing in the claim remain unverified. The material goes back to a 4chan post that was reposted on GTAForums in 2023, Beebom reported on September 28. What is new this week is the attention, not the evidence.

Where did the L.A. Noire 2 rumor come from?

It is not a new leak. According to Beebom, a GTAForums user named Shahanshah shared the claims and attributed them to an anonymous poster on 4chan. Beebom dates the material to December 8, 2023.

GamesRadar describes the same route, from 4chan to GTAForums. That distinction matters: the forum user passed the claims along, and the reporting does not identify the anonymous source. Beebom, GamesRadar and GTA BOOM all trace the claim back to the same 4chan post, and none of them independently confirms that a sequel is in development. Game Empress has not been able to authenticate the original post.

What does the rumor claim about the setting and release?

The claim alleges that the sequel would move to San Francisco and center on the hunt for the Zodiac Killer, whose identity has not been conclusively established. It also names 2030 as a possible release. Beebom presents that as the date if Rockstar “sticks to its plans,” roughly four years after GTA 6, while GamesRadar says the leaker predicted a release window of “at least 2030.” Either way, 2030 comes from the anonymous claim, not from a release date Rockstar has announced.

One line attributed to the leaker, as quoted by Beebom, says Rockstar’s “higher-ups are talking about doing the face scanning stuff again” and want it to be “the best-looking game ever made.” That is a claimed ambition, not a technical detail.

It would be a change of scene. The original game, released in 2011, is set in the post-war boom of Hollywood’s Golden Age and follows Cole Phelps, an LAPD detective, according to Rockstar.

Why are fans discussing it again?

The renewed interest comes from the leaker’s other claims. Beebom and GamesRadar both say that details the same source posted about GTA 6 in 2023 turned out to be accurate. Beebom adds that some of them were not known until the previews or the GTA 6 Extended Look, which premiered on August 27.

That is the outlets’ assessment, not an independent audit of the source. And even if some earlier GTA 6 details were right, that would not verify a separate claim about a different game. Plans also change. Beebom itself notes that the material is nearly three years old and that Rockstar may have changed course since.

What have Rockstar and Take-Two actually said?

Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick was asked about L.A. Noire at the iicon event in April. According to GamesRadar and Digit, he said: “There’s nothing to announce on LA Noire specifically, and if there were, it would be Rockstar announcing it, not me.” He added: “But in any case, with regard to our legacy IP, the teams are always looking at what we have and we’re always thinking about it.”

GTA BOOM reported that Zelnick first answered “Yes” when asked whether the company was looking at doing more with the series, before walking it back to “you never know.”

There is also a studio connection. In March 2025, Rockstar announced it was acquiring Video Games Deluxe, the Sydney studio that worked on the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire and L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, and said it would be renamed Rockstar Australia, according to Take-Two. Rockstar’s relationship with the team began with founder Brendan McNamara’s former studio, Team Bondi.

Neither Zelnick’s remarks nor the studio acquisition confirms a sequel. The remarks show general interest in older series, and the deal shows a close relationship with a studio that knows L.A. Noire well.

Is L.A. Noire 2 Rockstar’s next game after GTA 6?

That has not been confirmed. What Rockstar has confirmed is GTA 6, which is scheduled for November 19, 2026 and features on our list of the most anticipated games of fall 2026. As of September 30, 2026, no official L.A. Noire 2 announcement had appeared in the recent posts on Rockstar’s Newswire, on Rockstar’s L.A. Noire game page or in Take-Two’s news releases.

For now, the open questions outnumber the answers: whether a sequel exists, what it would be called, how far along it might be, which platforms it would come to and when it could release.
