Kratos Fur Coat: For New Game Plus, fans of God of War Ragnarok are hoping for Kratos’s fur coat, seen in promotional imagery and the game’s opening minutes. Or in the game proper in any sense. The first glimpse of Kratos in God of War Ragnarok (apart from a logo teaser) was of him sitting in a cave with a fur coat on, flint in hand, forging arrows.
In addition, the fact that Kratos is depicted wearing the fur coat on the game’s key image led many to assume that this would be his new go-to ensemble in the game, which was met with approval due to its impressive badass aesthetic.
The reality, as any player of God of War Ragnarok, can attest, is far different. Within the first ten minutes of the game, Freya attacks Kratos and Atreus, grabbing the God of War by the throat and pushing him into the snow, where the fur coat disappears forever.
It’s an odd choice, given how well-received the coat was initially, and it almost reads as a joke on Sony Santa Monica’s part. Even so, God of War fans have continued to demand its return, and one Reddit user, identified as V1V1S3CT10N, has a reasonably ingenious plan to achieve it.
When asked about the fur coat, V1V1S3CT10N posted a picture of Kratos wearing it and wrote, “Santa Monica, I urge you, bring back the fur coat in NG+,” referring to a mode that has not yet been included in the game but was confirmed to be arriving next year.

With over 5.6k likes at the time of this post’s publication, it swiftly rose to the top of the subreddit’s most popular posts. The vast majority of replies to the post agree with the concept. At the same time, many readers are mystified as to why Kratos’s coat was even featured in the marketing campaign if he will inevitably lose it.
A Reddit user noted that YouTuber Speclizer succeeded in making the fur coat function on a jailbroken PS4, suggesting that the necessary code for this was already included in the game and could be easily accessed.
