Will GTA 6 Come to Switch 2? Nintendo of America’s President Says It’s a “Conversation for Take Two and Rockstar”

- Some headlines have presented the interview as Nintendo saying the Switch 2 can run GTA 6.
Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard won’t say whether Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Switch 2. Asked about it in an interview with Variety published Oct. 9, 2026, she passed the question to the game’s publisher and developer.
“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”
For now, Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists two platforms, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of Nov. 19, 2026. As of Oct. 11, neither a Switch 2 nor a PC version had been announced there.

What Pritchard said, and what she didn’t
Some headlines have presented the interview as Nintendo saying the Switch 2 can run GTA 6. Pritchard’s quote doesn’t say that. In the Variety article, the line that the console “certainly has the horsepower” to host the M-rated game is the writer’s own assessment. It is followed by the note that Pritchard “won’t say if the title is coming to the platform.”
Her answer was neither a yes nor a no. It leaves the decision with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games, which have not announced a Switch 2 version.
Why the question keeps coming up
The Switch 2 is still early in its life. It launched in June 2025, and Variety reports sales have topped 23 million units. Pritchard, who took over from longtime Nintendo of America chief Doug Bowser in January, told the outlet, “We’re just at the beginning of seeing what Nintendo Switch 2 can do.”
Big third-party shooters are on the way. According to Variety, Activision is bringing Call of Duty back to Nintendo hardware for the first time in more than a decade, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launching on Switch 2 this fall alongside its Xbox and PlayStation versions.
Pritchard also described the wide audience Nintendo is aiming for. “We have historically said that Nintendo is for ages 5 to 95, and that continues to be true,” she said.
Nintendo’s own November headliner
Nintendo’s own big November release is a Zelda game. The franchise’s 40th anniversary includes the Ocarina of Time remake, which Variety describes as the only high-profile game going up against GTA 6’s November launch window. A Zelda-inspired live concert series is also planned, and the live-action Zelda movie made with Sony debuts next April.
If you want GTA 6 on launch day
Nothing in this interview changes the launch plan. To play GTA 6 on Nov. 19, you’ll need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. If you’re still on older hardware, see our guide on whether to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 before GTA 6. We have also priced GTA 6 on day one in 10 countries, console included.
