US Army Battalion Offers Soldiers 4 Days Off to Play GTA 6 If They Reenlist

A GTA 6 reenlistment incentive at a U.S. Army battalion in Georgia is offering eligible soldiers something few military retention packages can claim: four days off timed around the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.

The offer comes from the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, where soldiers who reenlist for at least two additional years can qualify for a special four-day pass around GTA 6’s November 19, 2026 release.

And despite initially sounding like the kind of memo that might have been created as a joke, the offer is real.

At least 20 of roughly 130 eligible soldiers had already committed to reenlisting under the incentive when Army officials provided the latest figures.

The offer is based on a July 28 memorandum signed by battalion commander Lt. Col. Ryan Hodgson.

Eligible soldiers need to reenlist between August 1 and November 14, 2026 and commit to at least another two years of Army service to receive the special four-day pass.

The timing is deliberate.

GTA 6 launches on 2026 November 19, and the pass was created so qualifying soldiers could have additional time away from duty around the game’s release.

That doesn’t mean everyone who accepts the offer automatically walks out of the gate for the same four days. The exact dates still have to be coordinated with the soldier’s chain of command and operational requirements.

So the viral version of the story — “reenlist and get four days to play GTA 6” — is essentially true, but there’s more structure behind it than the headline suggests.

Four Days Off Comes With a Much Bigger Commitment

The obvious catch is the size of the trade.

Four days away from duty may sound appealing to someone planning a long GTA 6 launch weekend, but qualifying soldiers must agree to remain in the Army for at least two more years.

This isn’t four days off in exchange for signing a simple form.

It’s an additional perk aimed at soldiers who are already approaching a decision about whether to continue their military careers.

The Army has long used reenlistment incentives ranging from bonuses and preferred assignments to training opportunities and additional time off. What’s different here is the decision to tie one of those incentives directly to a major video game release.

And apparently, it has caught people’s attention.

A four-day pass built around one of the most anticipated game releases in years certainly does that.

The Associated Press reported that the offer was designed both to attract attention and to remind soldiers when they were approaching their reenlistment window.

In that sense, GTA 6 is less the actual reward than the theme wrapped around an existing Army retention tool.

The first GTA 6 Cyberleek gameplay leak showed Jason playing basketball alongside an apparent six-star wanted level and what was claimed to be a map of Leonida.

That was followed by another GTA 6 gameplay leak showing Taser combat, car-theft options and a story cutscene, offering a closer look at several mechanics that hadn’t appeared in the initial footage.

Cyberleek later released GTA 6 plane footage showing Vice City and the game’s radio menu, adding another aerial look at Rockstar’s open world.

None of those leaked development clips should be treated as a definitive representation of the finished game, but their rapid spread helps explain just how intense interest around GTA 6 has become ahead of launch.

GTA 6 Is Still Scheduled for November 19

Rockstar Games currently lists November 19, 2026 as GTA 6’s release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Before then, Rockstar is preparing another major official look at the game.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is scheduled for August 27 at 3 PM ET, giving Rockstar another opportunity to show the game on its own terms after weeks of intense speculation and leaked footage.

That means soldiers considering the Fort Stewart offer won’t have to rely solely on unofficial material to decide how excited they are about spending four days with GTA 6.
