Take-two Latest Announcement on GTA 6 PS Plus Game Pass

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has made it clear that it has no plans to release games like Grand Theft Auto 6 through subscription services like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass. Day one, at the very least. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently commented on the company’s earnings call that subscription services are still a modest industry and that they may be supported in various ways.

After being questioned by an investor about the threat posed by services like Game Pass, Zelnick played down the significance of them, claiming that despite having 25 million customers, Game Pass is still too tiny a business for Take-Two to put games on it. But Sony is happy to back PS Plus and Game Pass by making its back catalog available on those services.

Zelnick added, “We don’t make our frontline titles available on a specific date” (transcribed by SeekingAlpa)

“We’re thrilled to be in business with subscription services for our catalog titles at the appropriate time. We think that’s the right way to support subscription, and subscription is still a relatively small business.”

When asked if he worries that subscription services will cannibalize the industry of selling games at full price, Zelnick said no. This is most likely the case at the moment, judging by the quality of certain recently released AAA titles.
