Final Fantasy XVI has gone gold, which means it is prepared to be produced onto discs, about three months before its intended release date. But, work will still carry on.
The studio posted a picture of crew members partying on Twitter along with a Torgal plushie to honor the occasion. “Mastered up today,” the tweet reads. “Both the staff and Torgal are delighted.”

With 2016’s Final Fantasy XV, the series’ mainline game has been Final Fantasy XVI. The publication of a core numbered entry in the series has become uncommon, but a few other Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy VII Remake, have been produced since then.
Final Fantasy XVI’s production team had entered “the finale” back in April of last year, according to producer Naoki Yoshida, and by November, according to main director Hiroshi Takai, development was 95% finished.
Final Fantasy XVI will eschew the series’ customary turn-based combat in favor of more character-action-like conflicts, like Final Fantasy XV, and will be a PS5 exclusive for at least six months.
The game is a high-fantasy epic that combines an action-packed style with distinctive Eikon combat. It takes place in the war-torn world of Valisthea and is focused on the Dominants, talented people who can control Eikons.
