Counter-Strike 2 Update Introduces Valorant-Inspired Elements

The primary loadout mechanics of Counter-Strike 2 are changing due to Valve’s announcement of a sizable number of improvements to the system’s graphics and the potential arsenal of weapons available to players.

The game is scheduled to release sometime in the summer of 2023, and aside from the first informational push by Valve, there hasn’t been much else to report on it.

While it is unclear whether Counter-Strike 2 will genuinely transform the game, everything demonstrated suggests it will.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the old weapon selection wheel is being eliminated as practically every facet of the game’s gameplay is being updated in some way, shape, or form.

It appears Valorant’s own weapon selection mechanisms have inspired Counter-Strike 2, as the wheel is being completely removed and will be replaced with a unique grid.

Five handguns, five “mid-tier” weapons including shotguns and submachine guns, and five rifles and carbines will all be available on this grid.

Players will be able to modify all the other slots aside from the traditional beginning pistols for each faction, but doing so does mean that they’ll be leaving some of the weaponry back in their armories where they won’t be usable in the middle of a match.

@CounterStrike shares a tweet:

Any 5 pistols, any 5 mid-tier weapons, and any 5 rifles. Today’s Counter-Strike 2 update introduces a revised loadout system where players select 15 weapons from 3 categories on CT and T-side to bring with them into matches. Including the M4A4 and M4A1-S. pic.twitter.com/enl7mW9qnT

The newly imposed 15-weapon cap hints at potential surprises for the game, in addition to maybe drawing inspiration from Valorant’s weapon-choosing techniques for the menu.

Valve has demonstrated that it is not opposed to including brand-new weapons in the game, as evidenced by the renowned R8 revolver from CS:GO.

Valve won’t have to worry about overstuffing the weapon selection wheel with extra possibilities since players must select their 15 favorite weapons for any battle. It may wind up introducing more weapons over the duration of Counter-Strike 2’s lifespan.

It’s also important to note that the weapon skins in Counter-Strike 2 now permit geometric variations between weapon models. Naturally, there won’t be many modifications between each M4A1 skin.

Still, as seen in Valve’s initial showcase videos, gamers may anticipate occasionally seeing various suppressors, sights, grips, and other components. The modifications Valve made to its CS:GO gambling policy represent another positive, albeit small change.

It’s feasible that this will lead to a healthier and fairer environment for Counter-Strike 2’s skin economy because Steam now forbids several previously regarded as acceptable for skin gambling, such as engaging in commercial activity. But if the adjustments are reflected in a significant way won’t be known until later.
