Established in the middle of the 1990s, BioWare is one of the most well-liked western RPG studios despite a less-than-stellar recent past. After establishing itself with Baldur’s Gate, EA bought BioWare in the early 2000s, and the studio produced some of the best western RPGs ever, such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Fans are hopeful that BioWare’s forthcoming projects are more in line with the developer’s previous works after recent releases like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem fell short of expectations. A new Dragon Age and a new Mass Effect, both of which are mainline entries in their respective franchises, are on the horizon for BioWare, giving the developer a lot to work on.
In addition, BioWare is still releasing patches for Star Wars: Jedi: which is set to turn 12 years old. Even if these games don’t come out in ’23, fans hope we’ll get some new information about them by the year’s end.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may Come Out in 2023
The development of Dragon Age 4 has been ongoing for some time. Dragon Age 4, which has been in production for quite some time under the pseudonym “Joplin,” was shelved in 2015, ostensibly because of a lack of live-service aspects to offer continued monetization.
With the popularity of single-player games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, development on Dragon Age 4 was begun in 2018, with EA allowing BioWare to exclude the game’s intended multiplayer components.
Dragon Age 4 is still developing despite a staggering number of lead devs quitting the project over the last few years; the game was given its official title, Dragon Age 4: Dreadwolf, just last year.
BioWare also announced that the game has entered the Alpha level and is playable. While this led to much conjecture among fans, it’s impossible to tell just how long Dreadwolf could stay in this Alpha stage, and a release date still hasn’t been set.
According to the newest speculations, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could release in late 2023, perhaps during the Fall, while it might be more likely to appear in 2024.
Given that EA’s tent pole release this year is Star Wars: Jedi: Survivor, delaying the game’s release until 2024 would give BioWare more time to guarantee the game is polished. Regardless, other content for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf should be arriving for fans in 2023.

Until 2023, we may not see more Mass Effect from BioWare
The first gameplay footage for the next Mass Effect game was shown off at the 2020 Game Awards, where it was confirmed that the game would be a successor to the events of the original trilogy rather than a spinoff in the vein of Andromeda.
The next Mass Effect game has only been teased by a video, a poster, and several leaked concept art pictures, all likely from an early stage in the game’s development.
Gary McKay, creative director of BioWare, stated that the following Mass Effect only entered prototyping in February 2022, indicating that the game has only been in earnest development for about a year and is still quite a ways off.
Nevertheless, there is a chance that in 2023, viewers may be treated to another cinematic trailer that may hint at a different locale or other story elements.
