Hackers are a real problem in online gaming. If they ever get to the account database, millions of players can have their games compromised. Fortunately, if you play EFT, your Tarkov items and progress are safe. Here’s an explanation of why and how things could’ve gone worse for Battlestate Games if the hacker had gone deeper.

The Hack

A few days ago (depending on your timezone, it coincides with April Fool’s Day), the Escape from Tarkov Launcher had an anomalous alert. It said ‘Hacked by Zelenka Guru Keefga & Zelenka Guru Member 3878653.’

This group runs a service for game hacks and Tarkov account trading. They likely did it to get more clicks or customers on their site. BSG quickly took down the message and assured players it was the only thing affected. Game data and servers were untouched, they said. However, is that all there is?

Hacking a Game Explained

This can be done in two ways.

One, the hacker plays the game. Data that handles the hacker’s playthrough will be created. They find that file and edit it. The next time they play the game, their saved data will reflect those revised values.

Two, the hacker translates the game into its code form and edits it. This needs more technical knowledge about coding, as editing it willy-nilly will break the game.

Now, online games are different. Method one is practically unusable since the player’s saved data is handled on the server, unlike offline games. As for option two, it depends on how much the hacker changed the game’s code. For example, if they changed it enough, the server might not recognize the game and let it connect. At any rate, it works because the server sees that the game is editing data but not the built-in scripts.

Still, the developers usually have security systems that detect these changes and whether a game behaves differently. Even if the hacker succeeds, they can be found and banned eventually.

The ‘cheats’ you find in EFT are client-side programs that fool the server into thinking it’s a legal script. While some data processing happens on the server, most occur on the client’s side. This is easy pickings for the hacker to edit and ‘cheat’ in the game.

So What Happened Here?

The hacker/s used option two and edited the launcher’s script to add the alert. The server accepted this change and applied it to appear in everybody’s launcher. If that’s all they did, then there is nothing to worry about. This kind of thing doesn’t touch the data server.

Going back to the abovementioned methods, you’d have to hack into that server to do the first method since they’re trying to hack a server that requires a different plan of attack. Also, developers are well aware of the dangers of leaving that kind of data unsecured so that any hacker will meet obstructions and roadblocks.

Depending on the tightness of the security and the hacker’s skill, this can take a long time. Besides that, this data would be encrypted, an added layer to the hacker’s efforts to get to the info. However, they’re home-free once they’ve gotten this encrypted information. Decryption is more uncomplicated than getting into the server to retrieve it.

That Means Everything’s Okay, Right?

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that the hackers didn’t touch anything else but the breaking news in the launcher. The problem is that they somehow slipped by security measures to do this. Some dissidents contest that point despite assurances by the developers and a known content creator. The latter has scanned the affected files and found no piggybacking malware or other unsavory programs.

What else can slip by if someone can do this and succeed? How tight is their security? This stunt might invite other hackers to try getting into the system. Still, as a silver lining, this could expose the vulnerabilities for the devs to patch up.

It is safe enough to continue playing. However, some Tarkov account holders stopped for a few days to see how things played out. Security is no joke when the developers’ integrity and players’ progress are on the line.

It’s up to you whether you want to continue playing or wait out the fallout from this event.

In this limited-time event, you’ll work with Dandelion, Yennefer, Ciri, Triss, and Geralt to unravel the mysteries of the interdimensional vortex disrupting the festivities in White Wolf Haven Island. Besides being with the crew, you can gain access to myriad new events and Witcher-themed Lost Ark items.

So if you’re wondering how to start Lost Ark’s Witcher event, we’re here to help. The whole shindig will be available to all players from January 18 to February 2022. Buckle up because there’s going to be all sorts of fun to be had during this crossover.

Starting the Event

To get the ball rolling, head to any major city in Lost Ark. Once there, locate the Guild Investigator and talk to them. Note that you must have completed the Set Sail main story quest before you can proceed any further. That’s because finishing Set Sail allows you to sail around Arkesia and make it possible for you to use the Ocean Liner to go to White Wolf Haven Island. After you’ve talked with the NPC, you can take on a series of stories and daily quests to earn Lost Ark gear and rewards.

We recommend having an Item Level of at least 1300 before starting the Lost Ark X The Witcher event. If you haven’t completed Lost Ark’s main story and reached the endgame (level 50), you’ll want to start grinding through it now.

The Context of Why Geralt is In Lost Ark

The crossover introduces a new island called White Wolf’s Haven, and during a festival, a mysterious vortex appears, causing Geralt and his crew to end up in Arkesia. If you’re a fan of the Witcher games/series/books, you’ll know it’s no stranger to multiversal plots.

In the series, different universes are connected through the Spiral, and Geralt uses it to visit various universes before. This plot device is exactly why Geralt and his allies found themselves in Arkesia.

Rewards Await You

You can expect rewards after completing the dailies and main story quests. As expected, a variety of Witcher-themed items will be available as rewards.

A Whole Host of Improvements

The Witcher crossover event coincides with a new update introducing many quality-of-life improvements. One of which includes updates to Lost Ark’s Guild System. You can now deposit money in your Guild and receive a weekly income based on how high or low your contribution is.

There are three new guild research options as well, these are:

• Additional Trade Skill XP Gain
• Guild Repair Cost Discount
• Ability Stone Faceting Cost Discount

The research effects only apply to players in the guild, and they’re ineffective if you leave—even after it has been activated.

Besides that, we’ve got three new guild skills to tinker around with:

• Battlefield Debilitation: Foes within 24m of the caster take more damage.
• Battlefield Recon: Allies on the battlefield can detect stealthy foes within the 24m range.
• Battlefield Flare: Marks all foes on the battlefield.

Other additions to Lost Ark’s Guild System include Raid Matches and Mercenary System improvements.

Here are the details about these changes:

• Seven new Siege achievements are added, with earnable toys given as rewards.
• 3 Rank A Guild Raid Match enemies are added (Kohinorr, Proxima, and Magmadon).
• The Mercenary Rating is automatically set to the average of the characters in a Roster.
• Item Level Limit Function is added for hiring mercenaries; only those who meet the level requirement can apply.
• Mercenary System’s UI/UX improved.

Finally, two new PvP Island Sieges are now available to players. You have Lush Reed Island, a Rank A PvP base where you take the opposing team’s treasure chest to transform into a Tooki. Then there’s Golden Wave Island, a Rank B PvP base that transforms players into a loot hunter to kill opponents or monsters to earn points.

An Exciting Time for Lost Ark

2023 is looking to be a helluva ride for Lost Ark. Besides The Witcher crossover, we’ll get a new advanced class, the Artist. There’s also the Hanumatan Guardian Raid and Brelshaza Hard Mode, both offering new ways to farm Lost Ark gold. And that’s all coming within early 2023! As for what’s beyond April, only time will tell.

New World launched its first Fresh Start Worlds in November, just a few weeks after the 1.7 Brimstone Sands update. A staggered release spanned several days based on Amazon’s rollout plan. All four waves have been released; the final fourth wave arrived on November 4.

New World has been on a roll recently. Player numbers saw a significant boost—from a peak of more than 48,000 players logging in daily to farm New World gold to more than 130,000 active users. What Are Fresh Start Worlds?

As the name suggests, Fresh Start Worlds are a way to start “fresh.” You can experience (or re-experience) New World during its launch days. You might think that you’ll come across some issues considering that New World’s initial release didn’t exactly bode well, but you’ll be happy to know that Amazon Games will insert all the improvements that the MMO has undergone for this.

Fresh Start Worlds means that companies will control no territories initially; everyone starts from the ground. That means all the currency, like New World coins and such, created in that world can’t be influenced by transfers. The economy will start from the bottom as well—with everyone being low-level, there’s no doubt that we’ll see some new and exciting ways to make money early game.

Overall, Fresh Start Worlds is meant to be like a relaunch—you can even consider it the “second coming” of New World. The whole world of Aeternum is a blank slate, and everyone will have equal chances to take over the many territories again. Amazon Games is trying to replicate the game’s launch day again, minus the previous queue issues and mishaps.

Will I Miss Out On Content If I Play On Fresh Start Worlds?

No, you absolutely won’t! For the people that think that they might be missing out on future content should they decide to join a Fresh Start Worlds server, Amazon Games has made it a point that any new content released for the MMO will also be available in Fresh Start Worlds. Yep—you won’t lose out on anything by taking that leap of faith.

There are 13 New World Fresh Start Worlds servers, varying per region. It’s worth noting that Amazon has stated that there are no additional regions planned for the future due to receiving access to Fresh Start Worlds, so if you don’t find your server here, you’re sadly out of luck. Return to Aeternum Event

Remember the Battle for New World event during the game’s launch? We’re also getting a similar event for the Fresh Start Servers! But instead of having streamers occupying the openly available servers, they’ll have their own invite-only servers for this ongoing event.

Known as the Return to Aeternum event, Amazon Games commented that it’s designed to help the general world population of New World, as people will no longer flood the servers to play with their favorite streamers.

They would either have to join a different server or receive a private invitation to be eligible to participate. In the event, teams must race to unlock four tiers worth of Twitch Drops by completing at least six of the eight objectives per tier.

The Return to Aeternum event also created four new Fresh Start World servers, all of which will become available on November 18—after the event’s conclusion.

What About Server Transfers and Server Merges?

There are no plans to allow server transfers for existing characters on other servers, including transferring characters between Fresh Start Worlds. That said, server merges are also unavailable, regardless of the server’s population.

The official FAQ post from Amazon Games said that transfers from a New World Fresh Start World to a legacy world might be available in the future, but that’s an entirely different ballpark altogether. However, you get a third character slot if you’d like to get stuck in Fresh Start Worlds but don’t want to be forced to delete your legacy character.

New World is Returning to Top Form

If you’re one of New World’s lapsed players, then you remember that massive success the game had at launch when it high a high of nearly a million players on Steam. But we all know how that high collapsed over time, with New World generating only 15-25k active users afterward.

Fresh Start Worlds hopes to reinvigorate those old New World accounts sitting in the dust. It’s too early to tell if it’s a success, but if Amazon Games keeps up this pace, we might hit a new record for the most concurrent players on Steam.

Blizzard has long neglected the Recruit A Friend system, but no more—they’ve finally overhauled it in Dragonflight’s Patch 10.0.7. You can expect a fresh set of new rewards and items with the revamped system. Hopefully, more players that regularly farm WoW gold can make memories with their friends by sharing magical adventures across and beyond Azeroth.

According to Blizzard, the latest version of the Recruit A Friend is a way to reward veteran, returning, and new players with benefits to encourage them to play together. Expect the RAF program to retain some of its fan-favorite features while introducing a bounty of new stuff. Now, let’s look at all the rewards and how you can get them.

The RAF Program Has Been Here For A While Now

The Recruit A Friend program has been in World of Warcraft for decades. Blizzard first implemented it in The Burning Crusade expansion, and it’s been redesigned several times. The best way to think about it is that it’s like a Retail WoW system, meaning the benefits and rewards you’ll get won’t be available in the Classic version of the MMO.

That said, it’s still possible for you to recruit a new or returning player that wants to farm WoW gold again and receive the rewards on vanilla WoW since both games share game time and a subscription. If you have a friend that still plays the game regularly on the previous RAF track, you’ll continue to earn the rewards from that track if your friend has an active subscription. But if your friend’s subscription has lapsed for at least a month and they decide to renew it, you’ll collect rewards on a new track.

The Types of Players You Can Recruit

You can recruit friends with the RAF program using the in-game system. Most of the time, the veteran players recruit a new or returning player to come back and play World of Warcraft. Link your account with up to 10 friends to earn rewards such as additional game time, mounts, gear, and more.

Here are the type of players you can expect to see during recruitment:

• Veteran players: Veterans usually refer other players. Their account will often be already playing the game. They ultimately seek the benefits and rewards that come from referring.
• New and Returning players: These players receive the referral. They must have a World of Warcraft account over seven years old and not an active subscription or game time for the past 24 months. While they benefit from the RAF program, they don’t get the rewards.

Blizzard states that you can recruit a maximum of four players every 30 days. When a referral adds game time to their account, you’ll earn progress towards a reward. Of course, the more friends you invite, the faster you’ll receive those goodies. One friend clocking in multiple months of game time is equivalent to having multiple friends having only one month each.

Fortunately, Belle is regarded as an easy character to use. Her special move is pretty straightforward. It is like a disable/stun that can keep her opponents immobilized. As such, she is not all about speed and has some tricks of her own. This can come in clutch during do-or-die moments.

His Unique Skill is an area-of-effect disable that can change the tides of the race in a blink of an eye. It is a huge game changer but players will know when to use it to make it efficient. It is only natural that the face of Disney should be on this list. Boasting superb Acceleration stat, Mickey’s pretty consistent with his speed and high handling makes him an easy character to control as well. A very solid character for almost any racetrack.

Trailblazer, Mickey’s Unique Skill is an awesome defensive tool that makes him invulnerable for a period of time. It’s pretty tricky to use because you might not know when is the best time to use it.

Some may consider saving it until the end, in which when you have the lead, you can use this skill to secure the win as you will not be hampered by any external skills.

8. Mulan

Arguably the greatest warrior in China, Mulan is also a queen on the racetrack that packs both raw power and trickery. To make up for her low top speed, Mulan has a whole set of utility moves that make her shine on the track. Just remember to apply them in the right situation, and she is easily one of the best characters in the game.

Her final skill is a hail mary move that blasts fireworks at her opponents, creating a humongous explosion. It’s an all-in-play and with the right timing and usage, this can decide a game by itself.

9. Donald Duck

There are just so many things that are good about Donald Duck in this game and this is why he is often regarded as one of the best characters in this game. His skill set is very aggressive, making him an entertaining character to use and a mighty reliable one.

A static team has finally cleared the TOP Ultimate for the first time. Unfortunately, the party has been revealed to be using illegal mods.

The Omega Protocol is the latest Ultimate Raid players have been trying to clear for several weeks. While many gamers have been progressing smoothly with each run, some raid parties have boasted that they have already finished the TOP. However, these people didn’t win their FFXIV Gil fair and square from the Raid. Yoshi-P has even displayed his dismay towards players who used illegal mods.

First-Time TOP Clears Caught Using Illegal Mods

Ultimate Raids have been the pinnacle of Final Fantasy XIV raiding, and many parties with FFXIV accounts have been trying to be the first team to clear this challenging encounter. The Free Company UNNAMED_ attained the title as the first party to finish Ultimate TOP. Unfortunately, videos have surfaced wherein team members didn’t abide by the game’s rules to clear the Raid.

Several clips of the UNNAMED_ clear were posted online, showing that they used illegal mods to help them clear the Raid. The vod showed that one party member could view the Raid from an isometric perspective that zoomed out beyond the normal field-of-view limit. Players quickly realized that some raiders, if not all, were using illegal mods to complete TOP.

Aside from the zoom-out add-on, it was also reported that the party used other tools, such as the hitbox guide, that gave them an unfair advantage. It is most likely that the Japanese raid team resorted to using mods due to the community-organized World Race for Charity. This challenge monitors and recognizes the teams that clear Ultimate raids first. In response to the current situation, the organizers have clarified they tend to focus more on registered event participants and streamers.

While this modded completion run is technically the first TOP clear in the world, many players consider it invalid due to unfair advantages, and more people are asking Square Enix to step in. There has been a push from the community to have the devs only count streamers for the complete number so that it can be easily verified if they cheated or not. While it can be an effective strategy to prevent people from using mods, it does provide an extra strain on computers since gamers are required to stream their runs.

Yoshi-P is Extremely Disappointed

Square Enix’s Director, Yoshi-P, has shown his displeasure that mods have once again made a significant appearance in the game’s ultimate raids.

A similar situation occurred during Ultimate Dragonsong’s Reprise. Many parties resorted to using 3rd party tools, including add-ons that show a hitbox, safe zones, and even a voice command that would announce the next attack. Yoshi-P reminded players that using plug-ins is never necessary and will never be acceptable in one of the Lodestone blog posts.

Square Enix has been lax in the crackdown on third-party tools since most of these are harmless. The devs have adopted an “If we don’t see it, no harm will happen to our players” policy. While the studio does not promote the use of such programs due to Japan’s strict laws on the matter, it recognizes that these tools are purely for cosmetic purposes and don’t require strict regulations. Unfortunately, the proliferation of game-altering mods may change the devs’ stance.

Plug-Ins in Final Fantasy XIV

Add-ins in FFXIV has been a hot topic in the Final Fantasy community as Square Enix has explicitly stated that they do not support nor allow the use of 3rd party programs or apps in the game. However, most of the available plug-ins have been ignored since they allow changes to cosmetics and swapping assets without altering the gameplay. Unfortunately, players caught using add-ons are still subject to sanctions.

It is undeniable that many players are still using mods of some kind. Whether or not these add-ons are purely for cosmetic purposes or for making certain content easier, any time type of third-party tool is against the game’s rules. The devs still need to introduce an automated system to detect and auto-ban bot users, so Square Enix still relies on manual reports. However, the game may be implemented some anti-cheat programs in the future.

Players who use mods for purely cosmetic purposes shouldn’t worry about getting banned if they don’t stream it or get caught. However, players should remember that 3rd-party tools will never be permitted, so gamers should use their discretion whether they want to keep their modded painted eyebrows. If you’re wondering why games usually have this feature, the developers use them to test all kinds of stuff. Are the collisions working right? Use Skyfall and invulnerability. Are the shops functioning well? They’d use a money cheat to see if things go smoothly.

All you need to know about the changes to The Secrets of the North and the Phantom Muspah.

The Secrets of the North quest was released on January 10th when loads and loads of players rushed to complete the quest so that they get to be one of the first to defeat the repeatable boss you can only access after the quest. A good reason for the rush is that, generally, new content could be more balanced, and therefore you might be lucky and get a lot of OSRS GP relatively quickly before the first round of fixes and balance.

While this can sometimes be a frustrating experience, other times, it can be highly lucrative. Besides the new content not being fully balanced, you’ll have a chance to be one of the first to receive some unique drops, which can have a huge OSRS gold value due to scarcity when new content is released.

Hotfixed

Soon enough, after the release of the quest and boss, Jagex proceeded to adjust the drop table of the Phantom Muspah, as the quantities of these drops could affect their OSRS GP value on the GE since a larger quantity than needed was entering the game. For example, the Phantom Muspah initially dropped more good OSRS gold value, such as 3 Yew seeds, which Jagex readjusted to 2, 3 Palm seeds adjusted to just 2, or 6 Torstol seeds cut down to 5.

A few other seed drops also received a Nerf: 4 Rannar seeds reduced to 3 and 12 Rannar seeds reduced to 10. Besides this, Jagex has also adjusted the quantity of grimy snapdragon you could drop from Phantom Muspah from 38 to 31, reducing the overall GP you could get from particularly these drops. This slightly reduced the hourly profits to keep these items relevant long term and keep a balanced economy for the game.

Jagex has also hotfixed a few of the mechanics of the boss, but most importantly, they have reduced the boss’s resistance to ice spells when it’s not already frozen so that you can freeze it more often. Another critical hotfix comes for the players who die during the boss fight within the quest, as they can now retrieve their items safely since the grave location has been moved to a safe area.

QoL Changes

A week after that, Jagex returned to Secrets of the north and Phantom Muspah and delivered another set of changes based on the initial feedback from the players.

A great quality of life change makes the saturated heart a tradeable item, which made perfect sense since its components are tradeable already. Still, the quality of life improvements doesn’t stop here.

Because of the players’ feedback, Jagex has decided to give the Phantom Muspah its rightful place amongst spectral monsters since he is a phantom. As such, you can successfully use the Ectoplasmator, the Soul wars minigame unique, when killing him to gain a good chunk of passive Prayer XP. And if you’re on a killing spree, it might add up quite a bit since you’ll receive 20 percent of Muspah’s hp back as Prayer XP, roughly 170 Prayer XP per kill.

The Monster examine spell from the Lunar spellbook has also been updated to display relevant details about the boss, such as its defensive stats. However, you might still want to bring the Ancient spellbook to freeze the boss in place to have an easier time killing him.

Also, based on the community’s feedback, Jagex has decided to return to the original unintended stepback mechanic of the boss, where if moving, you’d always take 0 damage upon getting hit for the first time by his melee attack before having to move again to take 0 damage from the next hit as well. This mechanic made kiting the boss easier and the overall fight more enjoyable. While Jagex has decided to bring back this mechanic, which they removed when making the boss more vulnerable to ice spells, they have reverted this change and removed the 10 percent accuracy bonus to ice spells when the boss is not frozen already.

More or Less GP?

Because of his uniques, the Phantom Muspah will still bring you loads of OSRS gold. Hence, you should not be worried that you’re receiving less from his drops because these changes will help stabilize the prices on the market and hopefully bring back some of the value to the individual items and OSRS accounts for sale. This means that once the market stabilizes, you will more or less make a similar amount of OSRS GP per hour from the boss because even though you are receiving less, the value of these items will be slightly higher than I t currently is.
