Konami Files New US Trademarks for Vandal Hearts and Suikoden

Konami has filed new US trademark applications for two of its older role-playing series, Vandal Hearts and Suikoden, USPTO records show. Konami Digital Entertainment filed for “Suikoden” on October 8, 2026, and for “Vandal Hearts” on October 28. Neither filing has been reported anywhere we could find as of November 8, and Konami has not announced a new game for either series.

The filings matter less for what they announce, which is nothing, than for what they add. Game Empress compared both with Konami’s older US registrations for the same names, and each new application covers products or services the older ones do not.

Vandal Hearts: online games added for the first time

The new “Vandal Hearts” application (serial 50186067) covers downloadable and recorded video game software in class 9 and online video game services in class 41.

Konami already holds a US registration for the name. Registration 2191595, granted in 1998 to Konami Co., Ltd., covers video game software only and is still live in the USPTO database. The 2026 filing is in the name of Konami Digital Entertainment and adds the online-games class, which the 1998 registration does not include.

Konami filed it as a mark already in use and gave January 13, 2010 as the first-use date. That is around the release of Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, the series’ most recent game, which came out on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in January 2010. The game is still listed on the Xbox Store for $14.99, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, when we checked on November 8.

Suikoden: toys, music and online games

The “Suikoden” application (serial 50150839) is broader. It lists four classes:

  • Class 9: downloadable and recorded video game software, plus musical sound recordings
  • Class 16: pocket notebooks, blank journals and paper posters
  • Class 28: tabletop games, dolls, toy figures, stuffed toys and acrylic stand figures
  • Class 41: online video games, game information online and online e-books based on video games

Konami’s live US registrations for “Suikoden” cover video games (registration 3530144, from 2008) and printed goods (7150848, from 2023). Its older toy registration was cancelled in 2005. The new filing would add toys and figures back, along with music recordings and online services. Konami filed it on an “intent to use” basis, which means these products do not have to exist yet.

The series has been busy lately. Konami released the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster in March 2025, and it has announced a new mobile game, Suikoden Star Leap, which Anime News Network reported had an August 7, 2026 release date in Japan. An anime based on Suikoden II is also due in 2026, according to The A.V. Club.

What the filings don’t confirm

Both applications were waiting for a USPTO examiner when we checked. Companies file trademarks to protect names for many reasons, including merchandise, re-releases and keeping older brands active, and many filings never lead to a new product.

So neither filing confirms a new Vandal Hearts game, a remaster or new Suikoden merchandise. They do show Konami is updating its US protection for both names in 2026, and in the case of Suikoden, asking for toy protection it has not had since 2005, plus music recordings.
