GTA 6 Pre-Load Starts November 10: Start Times Around the World and How Long 212 GB Takes

Players who pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto VI digitally can start downloading it on Tuesday, November 10, nine days before its November 19 launch. Rockstar Games confirmed the date in a Newswire post on November 3, along with a file size of up to 212 GB and a new daytime screenshot of Vice City.

That is two days earlier than Rockstar’s own store first showed. When GameEmpress checked the Rockstar Store’s GTA VI page at about 16:00 UTC on November 3, it read “Pre-load begins November 12, 2026.” By November 5, the page had been updated to November 10.

Two dates, two kinds of copy

The Newswire post separates the two. Digital pre-loading starts on November 10, while “code-in-box versions for both consoles should be available from retailers beginning November 12,” Rockstar wrote.

That matters because the boxed game holds no disc. The Rockstar Store says physical versions “will only contain a download code inside the box,” so buyers of a boxed copy still have to download the game, and Rockstar says those copies reach retailers from November 12.

GameEmpress had reported the November 12 date earlier, based on the Rockstar Store and PlayStation Store listings at the time. Rockstar’s announcement and its updated store page now give November 10.

When pre-loading starts where you live

The start time depends on your console. On PlayStation 5, pre-loading begins at midnight local time on November 10 in each time zone. On Xbox Series X|S, it begins at the same moment worldwide: 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, according to a Rockstar Support page updated the same day.

That means Xbox players in the Americas can start a day early by the calendar. Here is the Xbox start time in some major time zones, worked out by GameEmpress from Rockstar’s GMT time:

LocationXbox pre-load starts
Los Angeles (PST)4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9
Chicago (CST)6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9
New York (EST)7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9
London (GMT)Midnight, Tuesday, Nov. 10
Berlin and Paris (CET)1 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10
India (IST)5:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10
Tokyo (JST)9 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10
Sydney (AEDT)11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10

The launch itself works differently. The same support page says GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time on November 19 in all regions, on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How long 212 GB takes to download

Rockstar says the pre-load will need “up to 212 GB depending on your device.” Its support page gives one figure for both consoles. To give a sense of scale, we worked out how long 212 GB takes at common connection speeds, assuming the download runs at the full speed of the line the whole time:

Connection speedBest-case download time
25 MbpsAbout 18 hours 50 minutes
50 MbpsAbout 9 hours 25 minutes
100 MbpsAbout 4 hours 43 minutes
300 MbpsAbout 1 hour 34 minutes
500 MbpsAbout 57 minutes
1 GbpsAbout 28 minutes

Real downloads are usually slower than the line speed, especially at busy times. With a nine-day window, even a slow connection has time to finish, as long as the console has room. Rockstar’s installation requirements page gives the same 212 GB figure as the space you need free. For more on why a box may only hold a code, see our check of 40 boxed 2026 games.

A new look at Vice City, and a free map

The announcement came with a new screenshot, taken in daylight from above the water. It shows the Vice City skyline with a Ferris wheel, a busy causeway, boats in the bay and a beach club lined with umbrellas, with a helicopter overhead. Fans shared it on the r/GTA6 subreddit the same day.

Rockstar also said that on November 19 it will add a printable GTA VI cover art poster and a map of Leonida to its official site as a free digital download. A double-sided printed version will follow on the Rockstar Store shortly after launch, priced at $0.99 or free with any purchase from the store.

GTA 6 launches on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
