Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, has launched a lawsuit over Remedy Entertainment’s latest logo. Despite Rockstar Games’ funding for Remedy’s Max Payne Remake, there is disagreement regarding the “R” branding that Remedy is now employing.
This is not the first time Remedy has faced a threat over their logo. LucasArts threatened legal action against the company’s 1996 design because it looked too similar to theirs.
In April of last year, Remedy published a blog post displaying their new company logo. It used to be an R with a bullet inside and a circle around it, but it’s now simply an R with a bit of repetition. Ironically, Remedy stated regarding the previous logo, “The bullet in the letter R in the old logo represented the era of Max Payne.”
Legal filings Were Made
Take-Two Interactive, first observed by @usemyhandle on Twitter (now known as X), has filed a trademark dispute over the new Remedy logo, both with and without the Remedy text below it.
These trademark filings were made with the UK and EU Intellectual Property Offices. According to their sites, Remedy registered this trademark in April and May 2023, but Take-Two “opposed” it a few months later.
It states that “The pending trademark application has been examined by the Office and was published for opposition, at which time one or more oppositions were filed but they have not yet been decided.”
Why Take-Two are going after it?
According to the EUIPO application, Take-Two’s resistance is based on Remedy’s logo, which provides “a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public.” This is perhaps about the well-known Rockstar Games logo.
Alan Wake 2, Remedy’s first game under their new logo, was released last year. It has received numerous Game of the Year awards and other accolades. Rockstar Games is currently sponsoring a recreation of Max Payne 1 and 2. The remedy is developing these altogether.
We reported in October that Remedy’s remakes were progressing and had passed a key milestone. It is no longer in the idea stage and is preparing for full development.
GTA Inventor Has His Say
Mike Dailly, the developer of Grand Theft Auto, stated on Twitter (now known as X) that he would never confuse the game with Rockstar. demonstrating one more what a bunch of c*** they are. Mike worked at DMA Design, the team that created the original GTA game, and he is credited as the series’ founder for developing its prototype.

Mr Dailly previously had conflicts with Rockstar Games and Take-Two. We previously reported that videos he released of his Grand Theft Auto prototypes were subjected to a copyright strike by the game’s current proprietors.

Mike commented at the time, “I see Rockstar are going full f***ers mode again, issuing copyright strikes to any GTA video they can find – including both my prototype videos. So now they’re trying to block all release of anyone’s work on a game – and any old development footage” Mr Dailly was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Scottish Game Week in November of 2023.
