Even though Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the most well-liked games on Steam, there are still whispers that the game is about to receive a significant upgrade that will completely change it. A fictional “Counter-Strike 2” is real, insiders told journalist Richard Lewis in a recent report, and the beta is scheduled to launch in March or early April.
According to the rumor, the Source 2 engine will be used for this new game rather than the old-fashioned Source engine that powers Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It will have a better match-making system and 128-tick servers to compete with Valorant, its main rival in the competitive shooter market.
It is unknown whether the two Counter-Strike iterations will coexist or if Valve intends to completely replace the original Global Offensive as it did with Overwatch. Also, Source 2 will likely require higher minimum requirements to function correctly.
The fifth Counter-Strike would be Counter-Strike 2. Half-Life by Valve inspired the first version of Counter-Strike; before releasing the mod as a standalone game that same year, Valve acquired those devs and the IP rights in 2000.
Turtle Rock Studios would produce the original Counter-Strike 2 four years later with Counter-Strike, Condition Zero, and Valve would later that year release a remake of the original game made with its, at the time, cutting-edge Source engine.
Although Counter-Strike has long had a cult following, the franchise didn’t take off until 2012’s Global-Offensive, when it began to consistently top Steam’s monthly rankings for player numbers and come in second only to PUBG: Battlegrounds in terms of concurrent players.

Arkane’s Redfall, another multiplayer first-person shooter game, will soon be available on Steam, but it won’t solely be available there. Beginning on May 2, the Redfall will also be offered on the Epic Games Store and the Xbox Store for both console and PC, with Game Pass as an option.
Players may be divided by storefront when multiplayer games have multi-platform releases like this, like Warhammer 40K: Darktide from last year.

Despite having access to Darktide through a PC Game Pass subscription the previous fall, I had to purchase a copy of the game through Steam simply because some of my friends are a group of jaded tryhards who won’t play any PC games on any other platform. This made me seriously consider ending some of my friendships.
