Square Enix, the company behind Final Fantasy, has shared a new business plan. They say they want to “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy” which means they want to release games on different platforms like Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.
This could mean they might not focus as much on releasing games only for Sony platforms as they used to.
Square Enix’s Plans for Multiplatform
Square Enix has a new plan called “Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens.” They want to release their big games on different platforms like Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, and Windows PC.

Before, Square Enix usually made deals with Sony to release their biggest games only on PlayStation. For example, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 are only on PlayStation 5.
But some games, like Forspoken and the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake, are on PlayStation and PC. Final Fantasy 14 just came out on Xbox this March, after being on PC and PlayStation for over ten years.
But now, Square Enix’s new plan suggests they won’t do this exclusive stuff as much. They want more people to be able to play their games.
They mentioned they want to do this for “major franchises and AAA titles including catalog titles.” This means games like Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 16 might come to other platforms soon.
This change comes after reports that Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth didn’t make as much money as expected. Square Enix even said they didn’t make a lot of money from big-budget games for consoles and PCs in their financial report.
Other companies like Xbox and Sony are also thinking about releasing games on different platforms.
Xbox is already doing this, and Sony is starting to do it too with games like Helldivers 2. Square Enix’s new plan is kind of like what Xbox is doing. They want more people to play their games, just like Xbox does.
