Spider-man Miles Morales Mods: This hack for Spider-Man: Miles Morales uses unique animations to make one of Miles’ swings look like he’s employing the web-climbing mechanism from Ultimate Spider-Man on the PS2.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales made some substantial adjustments to the traversal mechanics compared to the 2018 game, including giving Miles some unique electric powers to employ in mid-air and more variation in the tricks that he could pull off. One element that it didn’t add that fans truly desired, though, was the ability to climb up and down his webs.

Back in Ultimate Spider-Man on the PS2, players could hold down a button while swinging that had Peter crawl up or down his web, allowing a little more freedom in what point of the web they want to launch off of.

It was a tiny feature that was later transferred over to games like Web of Shadows and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and became something, like boosting on a web, that diehard Spidey fans desired to see in Insomniac’s games.

Although web-climbing wasn’t available in either the 2018 Spider-Man or Miles Morales, modders have done what they do well and implemented the feature themselves now that both games are on PC. The mod in question is called “Expressive Web-Climbing” and originates from NexusMods modder GuitarthVader.

The hack replaces Miles’ two-handed swing animation with a unique one that involves him climbing up the web as he swings, gaining a small bit of height as he does so. It doesn’t allow the player to climb up the web whenever they want, unfortunately, but it does simulate the feature very well and looks like it did in the PS2 games.

To trigger the motion, players will need to swing after falling into a freefall. Doing so has a chance of triggering the animation and making Miles climb up his web. There’s also a version of the mod that’s just been released for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered that lets Peter Parker undertake the web climb in his adventure.

It seems that the animation triggers a little less for Miles than it does for Peter, as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered mod lets you replace the normal two-kick swing instead of simply the freefall swing, giving the user more chance of witnessing the animation.
