Next week, Sony will discontinue integration with X, the social networking service formerly known as Twitter, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
The ability to “view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4” will expire on November 13, according to a note posted on PlayStation’s support website.

For the past decade, the integration of Twitter inside the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 — Sony never updated the app’s branding on the console to reflect its new name, X — has been an easy and uncomplicated way to send images and gameplay footage to social media.
Thousands of pieces of media taken on PlayStation are shared to X every day using the hashtags #PS4Share and #PS5Share.
With the elimination of Twitter/X integration, PlayStation users will have to go through some additional hurdles in order to share their material on the platform.
The most straightforward option will be to use Sony’s official PlayStation App for Android and iOS, which allows users to transfer screenshots and video from their PlayStation console to a mobile device.

Rival Microsoft made a similar step earlier this year, removing Twitter/X connectivity from Xbox systems and the Windows Game Bar. Microsoft’s decision to integrate with Twitter/X coincided with the launch of a new API pricing structure that could cost a corporation like Microsoft more than $40,000 per month.
For the time being, the second current-gen console with Twitter integration, the Nintendo Switch, still permits uploading media to Elon Musk’s website.
