And yet, Bethesda’s 2011 release is still attracting players years after its initial release, while many other studios and publishers can only dream of such longevity for their intellectual properties. Skyrim is among the best open-world games because of the incredible depth and breadth of its world and lore.
Of course, it has problems, and some of those problems have even become internet memes. Even so, the fantasy RPG has been wildly successful, and it will likely remain in the spotlight as long as the developer keeps re-releasing it or porting it to other systems.
For example, recently, some fans on Reddit have been doing just that. Forum user JackdawMiles recently asked, “What don’t you like about the vampire NPC Serana?” to elicit feedback from other Skyrim players.
There are many possible explanations, but one user claims that Serana started using the forge in the middle of a funeral. One player noted that no matter how long the player and Serana had been in Skyrim, Serana always brought up the “beautiful weather.”
Among the stories shared by users is that of a vampire companion who melted a Miraak cultist in their home, leaving only a pile of ash behind. Despite Serana’s status as one of Skyrim’s most devoted followers, some of her quirks can be frustrating.

This beloved NPC, like probably any companion in the game, can still annoy the player, whether it’s because she uses an intimidating phrase when she encounters a Mudcrab or because she doesn’t use powerful weapons when the player gives them to her.
I find it fascinating that this game is still hotly debated eleven years after its release. Fans of Skyrim never seem to run out of things to talk about, whether it’s the worst city in the game or the viability of the game’s economy. It is unclear now if The Elder Scrolls 6 will promote such discussion.
