Riot Games is currently developing Runeterra, an MMORPG set in the League of Legends realm. Apart from the upcoming fighting game Project L, it’s one of their most anticipated projects to date. Many members of the LOL community are eager to see how the title will appear upon release and where the devs will take it.
Riot Games has yet to make any more formal announcements regarding the game’s details other than the fact that they are working on an MMO set in Runeterra.
Riot Mmo Release Date Estimation
Riot Games has not yet specified a launching date for its planned League of Legends MMO. Riot is recruiting and hiring for a variety of positions on the MMO. Still, a project of this size will take time to complete, especially with fans having such high expectations based on all the lore we’ve been given over the last few years.
To give you an idea of how long it takes to construct an MMORPG: World of Warcraft, by far the most popular MMORPG, was originally announced in 2001, but it took Blizzard three years to eventually release the game in late 2004, with a lot of in-game content still missing.
Taking into mind all of the tremendous advances that WoW has seen over the past nearly 20 years, Riot will have a lot of work to do not only to satisfy League fans but also to be able to compete with Blizzard’s #1 MMORPG out there. There have been plenty of other games that have tried – and failed.
Riot will almost certainly take considerably longer to develop their MMO than Blizzard did with Vanilla WoW. Based on the information we have so far, we predict the Riot MMORPG to be released in late 2025 or early 2026.
What Regions Will Be Included?
If we go by what we know, the League of Legends Universe of Runeterra contains a massive amount of area and cities that might be incorporated into the MMO.
According to the League of Legends Universe website, the game has 13 named Regions, all of which might be incorporated into the MMO.
The starting point might be one of the bigger places of the Universe, such as Noxus, Ionia, Demacia, or Piltover, as seen in the TV show Arcane.
The game may not include all of these regions because some of them, such as The Void and Targon, are yet unknown to us.
The following is a list of the 13 Regions:
- Bandle City
- Bilgewater
- Demacia
- Ionia
- Ixtal
- Noxus
- Piltover
- Shadow Isles
- Shurima
- Targon
- The Freljord
- The Void
- Zaun
What Kind of Content May the League of Legends Mmo Offer?
Well, an MMO isn’t an MMO unless it has Dungeons and Raids, which I’m sure we’ll see in this game whenever it’s published.
In terms of Raids and Dungeons, I believe we may expect to see various League of Legends creatures from the Summoner’s Rift, such as Baron Nashor or several dragons.
They might also incorporate Monsters from Twisted Treeline’s discontinued game mode Vilemaw a Giant Spider, which would delve into a storyline centered on the Region of The Shadow Isles, as well as various Champions as potential bosses such as Viego, Elise, and Mordekaiser.
