Prison Architect 2 has been officially postponed, with a revised release date of May 7, 2024.
After being revealed in mid-January, the initial release date for this planned jail design and administration simulation game was March 26, 2024. Unfortunately, this has been delayed following “careful consideration,” according to a press statement.
After careful consideration, Architects, we have made the decision to delay the release of Prison Architect 2 to 7 May 2024. 🗓️
While we are already confident in the game, this extra time will enable us to fix more bugs and further optimize the game for all platforms.

“While we are already confident in the quality of the game, we would like to use some extra time to identify more bugs and further optimize the game for all platforms,” according to a press release. “Although sticking to the original launch date was an option, we feel that taking this additional time is necessary to ensure that we offer a smoother experience to our players from day one.”
Despite the delay, fans will be able to witness some signs of life in Prison Architect 2. “We also want to show you how the development of the game is going in these final stages, which is why we’ll be starting streams up in March to go alongside our Prison Architect Academy series,” a post on the official forum says. “Stay tuned to find out the dates and times for these.”
The Prison Architect 2 team has stated that it plans to utilize this time to encourage the community to assist in constructing the forthcoming game. The official Prison Architect 2 forum allows you to make recommendations and vote on certain elements.
While it would be great to play this upcoming simulation game as soon as possible, postponing it to ensure it is as stable as possible at launch is a valid reason for the wait.
Prison Architect 2 will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 upon release, with a suggested retail price of $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99.
