In January, PlayStation Plus customers can look forward to several free Essential games, including A Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West, and Nobody Saves the World. On Wednesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the lineup. Beginning Tuesday, January 2, players will be able to download the trio of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles.

A Plague Tale: Requiem (PlayStation 5), a Polygon Recommends title, is all about stealth. It follows Amicia and her young brother to a tropical island in quest of a solution for his unexplained disease in the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. However, the island’s populace soon turns against them, resulting in a medieval tale that veers into folk horror.
Evil West (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5) is a blood-and-guts shooter in which players take on the role of Jesse Rentier, a cowboy on a quest to dismember as many devils as possible. We remarked in our review that it suffered from “charmless characters and [a] bland plot,” but with solid gunplay and creatures that go boom, it’s the perfect way to spend this strange liminal week if all you want to do is sit on the sofa.
Finally, Drinkbox Studios’ Nobody Saves the World (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5) is a vibrant, cartoony Zelda-inspired dungeon-crawler. With a meaningful storyline and well-balanced gameplay, the team behind Guacamelee and Severed presents its A-game. It also succeeds at boss battles, with interesting challenges peppered throughout its roster of unique, dynamically created dungeons.
The January PS Plus Essential games will be available for download until February 5, 2024.
PlayStation Plus Essential is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s entry-level subscription program.
