  • The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access: Relive Persia’s Legend in a Roguelike Adventure

The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access: Relive Persia’s Legend in a Roguelike Adventure

The developers of the Prince of Persia roguelike game had to change some parts of their game to avoid conflicts with another game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which came out a few months ago.

Lucie Dewagnier, the game director of The Rogue Prince of Persia, told Edge Magazine that her team had to ensure their game didn’t interfere with The Lost Crown, a Metroidvania spin-off being developed at the same time as their roguelike game. While The Rogue Prince of Persia is released today, The Lost Crown was launched in January.

The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a 2D action platform game developed by Evil Empire. Players take on the role of the legendary Prince in the mythical city of Ctesiphon, once the heart of the Persian Empire.

The city is now on the brink of destruction after being invaded by the evil chief Nogai. Players must use various abilities across different areas to save the land.

In this game, players will move through randomly generated levels, collect and upgrade weapons, equip new items, unlock new gear at the Oasis, and gather allies to help save the city. The Rogue Prince of Persia is now available on PC through Steam Early Access.

How the Prince of Persia Roguelike Altered Its Story?

The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access (1)

In her interview, Dewagnier explained that there were some minor issues early in development when both games were being made simultaneously. The roguelike’s story ended up with a setup similar to the Metroidvania game. “We needed to change things,” the game director explains, “but in the end, it was for the best.”

Ubisoft owns the rights to the Prince of Persia franchise, but Evil Empire is developing the Rogue Prince of Persia, best known as the developer of the acclaimed roguelike Dead Cells. Despite a few minor clashes over the narrative, Dewagnier says that Ubisoft allowed Evil Empire to create its version of this iconic character, with one exception.

“We cannot use the Sands of Time daggers because they belong to that trilogy,” Dewagnier explains. However, that was okay because Evil Empire “wanted to do something unique” anyway.

The roguelike emphasizes the Prince’s “acrobatic side,” the director points out. “He’s not a big hero with big arms and great strength – his main characteristic is agility, and we want to emphasize that with everything in the game.”

This approach is supported by the Prince’s limited magical abilities. His bola, which replaces the Sands of Time daggers, is the only magical item he automatically has, although he can claim other weapons from his enemies. Dewagnier says, “We’re trying to make the game plausible, so the only characters that use magic are the Huns.”

  • Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: Get Ready to Relive an Epic Journey

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: Get Ready to Relive an Epic Journey

The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will recreate the classic role-playing game using the same graphical style as Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler series. The remake is getting closer to release and has been confirmed to be available on multiple platforms.

    Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

    Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

A post on X/Twitter teased the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which was announced in May 2021 but hasn’t had much news since. The post confirmed the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Windows Store.

“The legend of Erdrick draws near,” the post reads, while a short teaser video ends with the phrase, “The legacy begins.” This suggests that Square Enix is close to showing more of the game and maybe announcing a release date, possibly during a summer 2024 event where E3 used to happen.

The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is a recreation of the 1988 original game, arriving more than 30 years later. The HD-2D style, first used in Octopath Traveler for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, features 2D characters moving through high-quality backgrounds, paying tribute to classic turn-based RPGs.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Platform

Square Enix has released a new teaser video for Dragon Quest III in HD-2D. The video reveals that the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The teaser doesn’t directly say “Dragon Quest III in HD-2D,” but it shows the Mark of Erdrick, which appears in Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. The video also includes the text “The legacy begins.”

The Dragon Quest and HD-2D logos are shown above the Mark of Erdrick, along with the logos for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Windows.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D to Release on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC

Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest 3 HD is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The news was confirmed on the series’ official X account a few hours ago. However, no additional details about the HD-2D remake were provided. The remake was first announced in 2021 during the 35th anniversary live stream of the franchise. At that time, Square Enix mentioned the remake would be released on consoles.

Square Enix previously described the remake as follows: “In this latest visual iteration of DRAGON QUEST III, long-time fans and newcomers will be invited to experience this HD-2D version of DRAGON QUEST III that provides a unique three-dimensional feel by adding 3D effects to pixel-based backgrounds.”

Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation was originally released in 1988 for the NES. Enhanced versions were released for the SNES in 1996 and for the GBA in 2001. The game was also ported to the Nintendo Wii and mobile phones.

The new version of the game will be an HD-2D remake, a visual style used in other Square Enix titles like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. Despite its simple look, developing HD-2D titles is quite expensive.

In 2022, producer Tomoya Asano said, “It’s probably worth noting that it costs more than you’d think. In that respect, it’s a good match for the titles we want out of Square Enix. There might not be much to gain from other companies copying it.”

Asano also mentioned that the teams working on previous titles share useful information with the newer teams, allowing them to incorporate effective methods from earlier games into the new ones.

  • 6 Best Co-Op Top-Down Shooters: Blast Enemies with a Buddy!

6 Best Co-Op Top-Down Shooters: Blast Enemies with a Buddy!

In a world filled with traditional first and third-person shooter games, top-down shooter games often get overlooked. These games might not have the most realistic graphics, but they are very fun in their way. One of the best things about these games is that you can see the entire environment around you and plan your strategy based on that.

What makes them even better is playing with friends in co-op mode, which adds to the fun and strategy. While there aren’t many great options, here are some of the best co-op top-down shooter games we’ve found.

    6. Livelock

Livelock is a top-down game about saving humanity in a world full of mechs. Despite the common theme, it does a great job with its action-filled campaign. The game has a variety of enemies, including different bosses with unique strengths and weaknesses. It also features a great customization system and can be played in single-player or co-op mode.

    5. Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition

No list of top-down games is complete without a zombie shooter, and Dead Nation is one of the best. The Apocalypse Edition offers even more zombies to fight and more weapons to use. The game focuses on surviving in a world full of zombies, with weapons like assault rifles, grenades, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers making the experience fun and exciting.

    4. From Space

From Space is a newer game with a cartoonish top-down style where you kill pink aliens trying to take over the world. The storyline can be hit-or-miss, but the gameplay is very enjoyable. It also has a Horde mode where you survive waves of alien attacks alone or with friends. This game is best enjoyed in co-op mode as it’s not as fun solo.

    3. Voidigo

Voidigo is a unique and creative roguelite game with a local co-op. It’s vibrant and colorful, with exciting gameplay. The game stands out with its wacky weapons, different bosses, and fun combat. Everything from the graphics to the movement and animation makes Voidigo a great game to try.

    2. Helldivers 1

Helldivers 2 Weapon Tier List (1)

Helldivers 1 is a hardcore top-down game about protecting Super Earth from intergalactic enemies. It remains fun with various expansions and game modes. It’s a great choice if you want a cheaper alternative to Helldivers 2 or if you want to play with friends and defeat countless monsters.

    1. God’s Trigger

God’s Trigger is a fast-paced, violent game where you cause as much destruction as possible with guns and swords. The game is fun because of mechanics like dodging enemy attacks and bullets quickly, making you feel like you’re in an action movie. The only downside is that it only supports local co-op gameplay.

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Explains Crunch Issues: Was It a “Heroic Effort” or an Industry Norm?

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Explains Crunch Issues: Was It a “Heroic Effort” or an Industry Norm?

The development of Baldur’s Gate 3 wasn’t completely free from crunch, according to a senior official at Larian Studios. However, the company managed to keep overtime work to a minimum compared to their previous projects.

Working overtime is common in many industries, but the gaming industry has a history of pushing this practice to the extreme.

The unpredictable nature of complex software development contributes to this, along with the fact that many people consider game development their dream job and are willing to tolerate inconveniences like crunching.

In recent years, there has been more public awareness and discussion about the gaming industry’s crunch culture. This has led to more companies being questioned about their development practices openly.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Explains Crunch Issues

Baldurs Gate 3 Jaheira Build Guide

Larian Studios recently weighed in on the ongoing conversation about crunch in game development. CEO Swen Vincke confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3, which received critical acclaim, required some overtime work to complete. Speaking at the Digital Dragons conference in Krakow, Vincke acknowledged that “a bit” of crunch was necessary due to the complexity of the RPG.

Vincke emphasized that Larian Studios learned from past projects, which helped them minimize the crunch for Baldur’s Gate 3 compared to previous games. He mentioned that Larian’s studios were usually “almost empty” after 8 pm and weekend work was very rare, mostly happening near the end of development.

The company also ended up cutting some content from Baldur’s Gate 3, such as additional maps and playable companions, which helped maintain normal working hours as deadlines approached.

Vincke believes that the intensity of work required for Baldur’s Gate 3 was minimal enough that some might not even consider it a crunch. He also mentioned that paid overtime helped make these extra hours more acceptable for employees.

Larian’s international network of studios played a role in minimizing the crunch, as there was always some part of the team in the office at any given time. Vincke highlighted that Larian recently opened its seventh studio in Warsaw, Poland, in May 2024, further committing to this distributed structure.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Reception and Impact

    Baldur's Gate 3

Vincke said that he and his employees didn’t work too much overtime, but they did have to work a little extra to finish Baldur’s Gate 3. They usually left work by 8 pm and only worked on weekends very rarely.

“I think, honestly, you will always have a little bit of overtime when you’re trying to finish something, especially when there’s so much complexity that needs to be brought together,” Vincke said.

Crunch is a controversial topic in the video game industry. Developers like CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher, have been criticized for making their employees work mandatory overtime.

The backlash was heard by the leaders of the studio, though, and they say that CD Projekt Red has stopped making their employees work that way.

  • Ubisoft’s XDefiant Now Available: Free-to-Play Arena Mayhem Begins!

Ubisoft’s XDefiant Now Available: Free-to-Play Arena Mayhem Begins!

XDefiant Factions have unique abilities you can use in combat, so picking the right one is important in Ubisoft’s FPS game. These abilities can help a lot, like healing your teammates, making you invisible, or setting an area on fire. Each Faction also has its special traits and characters to choose from, so there is a lot to learn.

Will you play as a stealthy Echelon operative, a supportive fighter from Libertad, or a flamethrower-wielding Cleaner? Here’s everything you need to know about each Faction in XDefiant.

    Ubisoft’s XDefiant Now Available

    XDefiant Release Date Delayed

Yes, Ubisoft’s XDefiant is currently available! It launched on May 21, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. They achieved a huge milestone reaching 1 million unique players within just a few hours of launch.

    XDefiant Factions

    XDefiant Release Date Delayed

The four default XDefiant Factions vary a lot, with some being better in certain situations than others.

Choosing the right Faction for your playstyle and combining it with the best XDefiant weapons can boost your performance in matches. Here’s how we rank the Factions from best to worst:

Echelon: Echelon is excellent for aggressive players who like to sneak around and use spy abilities. Their wallhacks and Low Profile passive make them deadly in the right hands, although they’re not the easiest to play.

Phantoms: Phantoms are a solid defensive choice and are very easy for beginners to pick up. Their extra health from the Hardened passive and shield abilities make them great for playing around objectives.

Libertad: Libertad is another good choice for beginners with abilities focused on healing yourself and your team. They’re more supportive, which might not suit everyone, but you can still play aggressively with their healing abilities.

Cleaners: Cleaners are decent, but their abilities are more unusual, so there’s a learning curve. Their Incendiary Rounds passive isn’t the best, and their other abilities can be hit or miss depending on the situation. With practice, though, they can be effective despite their drawbacks.

Why XDefiant Skips PS4 and Xbox One?

    XDefiant System Requirements

In a post dated May 2, 2024, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the official XDefiant account responded to a user’s question about the game’s release on the PS4. The reply stated, “We wanted to maintain a consistent standard of quality for the game, so we decided to focus on current-gen consoles.”

Last gen is being worked on
    byu/dirtydirt33 inXDefiant

This news may disappoint players who still use last-generation consoles, especially since a developer had previously indicated on Discord in 2023 that a build of the game was actively being worked on, as noted in a Reddit post.

It makes sense, though, as more players are moving to current-generation consoles.

However, there are still several ways to play XDefiant, so continue reading to learn which platforms the game is available on.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Operation New Blood Announced: Recruits Get a Remaster and More!

Rainbow Six Siege Operation New Blood Announced: Recruits Get a Remaster and More!

On the last day of the BLAST R6 Major event in Manchester, Ubisoft shared all the details about the new season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, called Year 9 Season 2: Operation New Blood.

This season won’t have a new character to play, but Ubisoft has changed the Recruit character. The Recruit will now be called Striker (for attacking) and Sentry (for defending). There will also be updates to the gadgets used by the characters Fenrir and Solis.

The new season will introduce the full version of Siege’s marketplace, a new membership system, and other updates.

Here’s what you need to know about Operation New Blood!

Rainbow Six Siege Operation New Blood Announced

Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person tactical shooting game made by Ubisoft. The new update, Operation New Blood, will bring many changes, new characters, and new gadgets to the game.

You can also watch the latest trailer to get some beginner tips for playing the game. Operation New Blood will be available soon on PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Striker and Sentry Coming in Operation New Blood

Rainbow Six Siege Operation New Blood Announced

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege’s Recruit will be changed with the new update called Operation New Blood. Players can now use the Recruit as Striker (attacker) and Sentry (defender), each with two gadgets. Their guns have also been completely updated.

Starting in Year 9 Season 2, Striker and Sentry will have access to all the gadgets in the game and can mix and match them. The only rule is they can’t carry two of the same gadget.

For example, Sentry can’t have two C4s and Striker can’t have six stun grenades. This change gives players many new options, especially for Striker, who can now use gadgets like hard breaching charges and Impact EMPs.

Tips for Playing Striker in Rainbow Six Siege

Even though Striker is still a recruit, they are a versatile attacker. Here are some combinations you can use to make the most of Striker:

Hard Breaching Charges and Impact EMPs:
Using Hard Breaching Charges with Impact EMPs is a great combination. This allows Striker to disable electrified walls and hatches and then destroy them with the hard breaching charge. For example, Striker can be very effective against Kaid’s Electroclaws on Clubhouse’s Kitchen and Bar hatches.

    Claymores and Breaching Charges:
Claymores can protect Striker while placing charges. This is especially useful on maps like Bank or Kafe, where Claymores are important for safety.

    Stun Grenades and Smoke Grenades:
Using two types of grenades together is a good strategy. Striker can use these grenades to neutralize Jäger’s ADSs and Wamai’s disks, making it easier to attack.

  • Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann Responds to Sony Interview: What He Really Said?

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann Responds to Sony Interview: What He Really Said?

Neil Druckmann, the co-studio head of Naughty Dog, which created The Last of Us and Uncharted, has denied comments he was reported to have made in a recent Sony interview.

The interview, released with this week’s Corporate Strategy Meeting, quoted Druckmann as saying that Naughty Dog’s next big game could “redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.” However, Druckmann stated on Twitter that he never said anything like that.

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann Responds to Sony Interview

Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann Responds to Sony Interview

Druckmann explained that Sony edited his “rambling answers” to the questions, causing “some of my words, context, and intent to be lost.” He shared his full answer on Twitter.

In his complete response, Druckmann never actually says the sentence he was quoted as saying. The interview quoted him as saying: “I’m eager to see how this new game resonates, especially following the success of The Last of Us, as it could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.”

The closest he comes to that is after talking about the success of HBO’s The Last of Us and the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime.

He says: “I think right now we’ve hit a tipping point where people realize ‘Oh my god, there are all these incredible experiences in games!’ So, I’m not only excited for this new game we’re making — and it’s something fresh for us — but I’m also excited to see how the world reacts to it.”

He continues: “Because of The Last of Us and the show’s success, even people outside of gaming are watching to see what we do next. I’m very excited to see the reaction to this new project — and I’ve already said too much. I’ll stop there.”

The new project at Naughty Dog is still a mystery, but we know they have at least two single-player games in the works after canceling The Last of Us Multiplayer. One of these might be The Last of Us 3, as Neil Druckmann mentioned he has a concept for it, but it is unlikely to be their next release.

Druckmann Teases New Naughty Dog Game: “Could Redefine Mainstream Perceptions of Gaming”

The Last Of Us Part II PS5 Remastered Version

Druckmann’s comments have caused a lot of discussion online, especially in the video game community, where AI is a hot topic. Developers and gamers are worried about AI replacing things like voice acting and story design, but executives are pushing for it, saying it will change how games are made and save money.

In the same Sony series, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions and Product at PlayStation Studios, said AI in games is important for younger gamers who want everything to feel personalized.

“For example, non-player characters in games could interact with players based on their actions, making the game feel more personal,” Qizilbash said. “This is important for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who grew up with digital technology and want personalized experiences.”

Earlier this month, EA boss Andrew Wilson told investors that “more than 50% of our development processes will be positively impacted by advances in generative AI.”

Wilson, who oversees EA Sports FC, The Sims, and BioWare games, said AI will make game development “more efficient.” He mentioned that EA Sports FC developers can now create stadiums in six weeks instead of six months.

The Witcher voice actor Doug Cockle also expressed concern about AI in the gaming industry, calling it “inevitable” but “dangerous.” However, the biggest use of AI for voice acting so far has been by The Witcher studio CD Projekt Red, and this was only done to replace a deceased voice actor with permission from the family.

In March, Keywords Studios tried to create a game using only AI but failed because the technology couldn’t replace human talent.

“One key lesson was that while AI can speed up some processes, the best results can only be achieved by experts using AI as a powerful tool in their creative work,” Keywords said.

In the Druckmann interview, the Last of Us director hinted at Naughty Dog’s new game, saying it “could redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming.”

  • Diablo 4 Season 4 Loot Reborn Guide: Conquer the New Itemization Frontier

Diablo 4 Season 4 Loot Reborn Guide: Conquer the New Itemization Frontier

After Season 4 arrived with many changes, lots of Diablo 4 players have come back to the game, and it has become very popular on Steam. The new season, called Season 4: Loot Reborn, has been mostly successful, with many players happy with Blizzard’s updates.

Unlike the less popular Season 3, Blizzard took extra time to get feedback from players before starting Season 4. They tested new features, like improved crafting and item systems, and updated Helltides.

These positive changes have made many players feel that the game is now much better. Because of these improvements, Diablo 4 has seen a big increase in players on Steam.

Diablo 4 Season 4 Loot Reborn guide

When Blizzard released Diablo III in May 2012, the game had many problems. The servers were overloaded, which made players very angry. The game was also very unbalanced, with only a few classes being good for the end game.

The real-money marketplace hurt the game community. Diablo IV had similar problems but not as bad. The game was in better shape, and people who played Diablo III at launch knew that Blizzard would likely fix the game after getting player feedback.

Even though I enjoyed Diablo IV before it was officially released, I knew it would take months or even a year for Blizzard to make improvements. Diablo IV Season 4: Loot Reborn is a big step in the right direction.

For those who don’t know about these changes, either because they weren’t interested in Diablo IV before or stopped playing after launch, Blizzard has completely changed how items and systems work. I was one of those who lost interest and went back to playing Diablo III.

Now, Blizzard has made it easier to get Codices, which are passive abilities from gear that all characters on your account can use. Some passives are still tied to Dungeons, but now you only need to do them once per Season instead of once per character. This is a huge improvement.

Season 4 also added Affixes through Tempering. These are extra attributes you can add to your weapons, like increasing damage to specific skills or boosting elemental resistances. Masterworking items is another new feature that makes your gear even stronger.

There is a lot to explore, and although Diablo IV still lacks some features from Diablo III, like saving gear sets, the improvements are significant.

One of the best updates, in my opinion, made the Necromancer class much more fun to play. Before, the Necromancer’s minions felt weak, but now I can summon a horde of skeletons and easily handle Helltides and Rifts. I love playing Necromancer so much that I stopped playing my Rogue.

A friend of mine who plays as a Barbarian also loved the changes, which made their build more effective. This season, Blizzard has focused on making players feel powerful rather than weakening them.

Everything is fun now. Helltides, Rifts, and even leveling up are exciting because it’s faster, and rare items drop more often. Season 4 started on May 15, 2024, and I’ve already completed my Battle Pass with over twenty hours played on my Seasonal character.

I had so much fun that I used the currency from previous Battle Passes to get a skin for my Necromancer. I hope Blizzard continues this path with Diablo IV, keeping characters strong and item drops plentiful because it would be a shame to step back from this when Diablo IV is in its best state since launch.

What These Diablo 4 Steam Player Numbers Mean?

According to SteamDB, Diablo 4 reached its highest number of players ever after the launch of Season 4: Loot Reborn. Over the weekend, the Steam version of Diablo 4 had 29,035 players playing at the same time, breaking the previous record of 28,836 players. What’s even more impressive is that many players have continued to play beyond the launch of Season 4.

While these numbers are impressive for Steam, they are likely only a small part of the total number of players because Diablo 4 is also available on consoles and Game Pass. When Diablo 4 first launched in June 2023, it was only available for PC players through Battle.net.

The game then launched on Steam a few months later in October. Some players might have switched to Steam, but it is likely that Battle.net still has more players since it was the only place to play for a few months.

Even though most players are happy with the changes Blizzard has made, not everything has gone perfectly. Some players have found unfinished items in the game, like a unique amulet called Eye of the Depths that had “WIP” (work in progress) and “TBD” (to be determined) in its description.

Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn Spurs 212% Player Growth on PS5 and PS4

Diablo 4 Season 4 Loot Reborn Guide

Using data from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts (thanks to our partnership with GameInsights), we’ve seen a big increase in the number of PS5 and PS4 players starting up Diablo IV recently.

During the week ending Sunday, May 19, 2024, Diablo 4 saw a 212.7% increase in PS5 and PS4 players after the free Loot Reborn update came out on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

A week earlier, Diablo 4 was in the 52nd spot on our weekly popular PlayStation Chart, meaning it had fewer players than games like Rise of the Ronin and Battlefield 2042. After the Loot Reborn update, Diablo 4 moved up to the 17th spot, becoming more popular than games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Genshin Impact.

The last time Diablo 4 had a big increase in players was during the launch of Season of Blood in October 2023. Before that, the game lost many players after the unpopular Season of the Malignant in July 2023, which introduced a disliked Battle Pass and content that caused player burnout.

By the time Season of Blood launched in October, Diablo 4 had lost 80.76% of its player base. Season of Blood brought a 104.48% increase in players, but they quickly stopped playing. The next update, Season of the Construct, came out in January 2024 and brought back 76.91% more players.

Loot Reborn has brought the biggest increase in players on PS5 and PS4 so far. This is likely because of the new season’s promises: easier item management, better loot distribution, and changes to make getting powerful items more reliable. These improvements should make the game more fun and less frustrating to play.

  • A New Doom Game Will Be Revealed in June: Get Ready to Rip and Tear Once More!

A New Doom Game Will Be Revealed in June: Get Ready to Rip and Tear Once More!

The next game in the DOOM first-person shooter series will be revealed at Xbox’s games showcase this June.

According to Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, the new game will be called “DOOM: The Dark Ages” (it was previously called “Year Zero”) and is believed to have a medieval theme.

A New Doom Game Will Be Revealed in June

A New Doom Game Will Be Revealed in June

A new report suggests that the next big Doom game from Id Software and Bethesda will be announced soon. This game might not be a traditional sequel, but possibly a prequel showing the origins of the main character, the Doomslayer.

On May 24, Insider Gaming reported that the next Doom game is planned to be revealed at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.

They heard early details last year about this game, which is set in a “medieval-inspired Doom world.” The codename “Year Zero” and the title “Dark Ages” hint that this game could be a prequel or an origin story for the Doomslayer.

Last month, some people thought a small hint from Microsoft reporter Tom Warren indicated a new Doom game was in the works and would be announced at the June showcase. This makes sense since Doom Eternal was released four years ago, and Doom is one of Bethesda’s biggest franchises.

The big question is whether Doom: The Dark Ages will be an Xbox and PC-only release, like Starfield, or if it will also come to PlayStation 5. We will find out in June.

    Possible Prequel Storyline for Doomslayer

According to Insider Gaming, Doom: The Dark Ages might look very different from Doom and Doom Eternal because it will be “medieval-inspired.” The title and its codename “Year Zero” suggest we will explore the Doom Slayer’s past and maybe his origins.

We won’t have to wait long to see the game if the rumors are true. It might be shown at the Xbox Showcase next month, on June 9.

This event will show what Xbox has planned for the rest of the year and beyond. It will also include a first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which was confirmed this week after some mysterious hints.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Be Available on PlayStation

According to Nate’s report DOOM: The Dark Ages will be available on PlayStation, in addition to Xbox and Windows PC, possibly on the same release day.

A few years ago, Microsoft bought Zenimax, which includes id Software and the DOOM series. In my Xbox Games Showcase 2024 predictions, I mentioned that you might see Microsoft’s new multiplatform strategy, and this is part of it.

Some people might think Microsoft should make DOOM exclusive to Xbox, but id Software has always made games for multiple platforms. DOOM has always been on PlayStation, and it doesn’t make sense to stop that now.

The goal is to sell more games and subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass. DOOM: The Dark Ages will also be on Xbox Game Pass with other DOOM games.

You can expect a lot of marketing for DOOM: The Dark Ages to focus on Xbox, along with Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and other upcoming games. Some of these games will also be available on PlayStation. The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 will be on June 9th, 2024.

7 Best Top-Down RPGs On Steam: Your Guide to Isometric Adventures

Top-down games are special because they show the game world from above. This view lets players navigate and plan differently compared to the usual first and third-person games.

These games often provide a strong tactical experience, focusing on puzzle-solving, combat strategy, and resource management. This style gives developers more room to create complex levels and detailed environments, and it’s great for popular gameplay styles like dungeon crawling.

Top-down games can be anything from tough, challenging roguelikes to relaxing, peaceful simulations, offering a range of experiences for fans. For Steam users, there are several excellent top-down RPGs available that stand out.

    1. Divinity: Original Sin 2

    Divinity Original Sin 2

This highly praised RPG takes players to the troubled fantasy world of Rivellon, where many interdimensional monsters are causing problems. The player becomes a key figure who uses a dangerous magic called the Source to try to fix the situation.

The character customization and player progression systems are very detailed, allowing players to create and stick to their unique playing style. The game has multiple endings based on player choices, giving it a lot of replay value as players think about which end is the best.

    2. Pillars Of Eternity

    Pillars Of Eternity

Modeled after classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate, Pillars of Eternity takes players to the depths of Dyrwood. The region is plagued by a strange disease called hollowborn, where children are born without souls.

Pillars of Eternity has a captivating story and pays great attention to detail. The fantasy world is well-crafted and quickly draws players in.

There’s deep lore to uncover and plenty of interesting quests to complete, making the game addictive. The top-down view makes it nostalgic, reminiscent of classic fantasy RPGs, and the real-time combat adds suspense.

The game is full of moral choices and their consequences, and it shines brightest in its deep storytelling.

    3. Bastion

    Bastion

This action RPG from 2011 caught attention right away because of its unique art style. Bastion has captivating sound and atmospheric narration, making it a memorable isometric game.

The story follows The Kid, a silent character in the city of Caelondia. Players explore the area to find Cores, important items needed to power the damaged city.

Bastion’s hand-painted visuals are striking and different from most other games. It also has an atmospheric soundtrack that adds to its immersive quality.

The game offers many narrative choices, and each one changes the game a little bit. This makes Bastion have a lot of replay value, as players try to discover all the different ways the story can go.

    4. Torchlight 2

    Torchlight 2

Runic Games’ action RPG from 2012 impressed players and critics with its mix of exploration, quests, and fast-paced combat. The combat translated well into the game’s cooperative multiplayer mode.

The game is set after the town of Torchlight suffers a big disaster. Players can choose from four different classes to build their characters. They have to confront the Alchemist, a hero who turned into a villain from the first Torchlight game.

Torchlight 2 is a slow-burning RPG dungeon-crawler with a good story that ties into the original game while standing on its own. There are three big areas to explore across three parts of the game.

Players get to use lots of skills, follow an interesting story, and take part in thrilling action. Torchlight 2 was even more popular than the original and pleased both old and new fans.

    5. Wasteland 2

    Wasteland 2

For fans who loved the first two Fallout games, Wasteland 2 is a tactical, post-apocalyptic RPG that brings back a sense of nostalgia. It was released 26 years after the original 1988 game, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The game is set in a world devastated by a nuclear war in the late ’90s. It takes place 15 years after the events of the original game, starting in the ruined landscape of Arizona. Players face many dangers in this damaged world, including devastating storms, homicidal robots, and struggling communities.

Wasteland 2’s combat system focuses on tactics, which suits its top-down, isometric style. Players need to think strategically and manage resources carefully to survive encounters with various deadly threats.

The game has strong replay value because of its branching narrative and multiple endings, keeping players engaged with its well-written story.

Its popularity led to the release of Wasteland 3, continuing the series’ success.

    6. Transistor

    Transistor

In 2014, Transistor offered players a unique mix of real-time combat and strategic gameplay. This creative sci-fi adventure is set in a futuristic cityscape that’s visually stunning.

Players control Red, a famous singer who battles numerous robotic enemies in the bustling city of Cloudbank. She uses the Transistor, a powerful weapon perfectly suited for defeating these dangerous robots in combat.

The game features a fitting soundtrack and impressive visuals that keep players engaged with its deep, conspiracy-filled story. Transistor impresses gamers with its diverse combat mechanics and colorful art style, making it a top-down favorite even today.

    7. Tyranny

    Tyranny

Unfortunately, Tyranny didn’t have enough money to reach its full potential. The game’s exploration of evil is something extraordinary that not many games try, which makes it special.

Tyranny is great to play because of its fantastic writing and interesting characters. It may not succeed in all areas, but it shines in others. Even though the ending feels rushed, players can still have a lot of fun with this game.

Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It will be shown at Xbox’s showcase next month and will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. There’s no news yet about a Nintendo version or support for older systems.

A new Nintendo console might be announced soon, and last year, Microsoft made a 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms. It’s not clear what this deal will mean yet, but Xbox wants Nintendo fans to feel fully included in the Call of Duty community.

More Details to Be Revealed at Xbox Games Showcase on June 9

Is Black Ops 3 Cross Platform

This year’s Call of Duty game returns to the Black Ops series for the first time since 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War. The announcement was leaked early by a full-page ad in USA Today, which fans shared online before the official news.

A video called “Wake up (Rushmore) #thetruthlies” shows a team putting blindfolds on the faces of the presidents on Mount Rushmore at night. The blindfold on Lincoln’s face has a three-headed wolf emblem.

This emblem was also in the newspaper ad and appeared in the last game, Modern Warfare 3. An observant fan posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the game might be set during the Gulf War.

There is no release date, pricing, or details about different editions of the game yet. Activision calls it a “dark new chapter” in the series. They will share more information at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on June 9 during an online Xbox Games Showcase, followed by a Black Ops 6 Direct broadcast.

The last Black Ops game took place in the early 1980s and was a direct sequel to the first Black Ops game. Like other Call of Duty games, it had a multiplayer mode with Zombies and a free-to-play battle royale game called Warzone.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 Teaser: Wasteland Warriors Rise!

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 Teaser

Out with the gods, in with a post-apocalypse. Fortnite just launched its newest battle royale season, Chapter 5: Season 3, which Mad Max and Fallout inspire. It’s called “Wrecked” and brings a new wasteland region, more vehicle combat, and even Magneto.

First, let’s talk about the island. In the game’s story, a huge sandstorm hit, changing the southern part of the map. There are three new places: a refinery called Redline Rig, a vehicle arena called Nitrodrome, and a beach area called Brutal Beachhead.

This season also has “Wasteland Warriors,” the boss characters, with names like The Machinist and Ringmaster Scarr. Additionally, there are now two War Buses patrolling the island that players can hijack and control.

There are two main updates to gameplay. One is Nitro, which you can drink or use on your vehicle. It makes players faster, stronger, and reload quicker, while cars go faster, use less gas, and can ram with more power.

Vehicle mods are back too, so you can add gun turrets and bulletproof tires to your car. Since Fallout is now part of Fortnite, Nuka-Cola is being added. Drinking it will restore health and slowly build your shield.

For those who buy this season’s battle pass, you’ll get T-60 Power Armor and other characters, including a sentient pea pod. Starting in July, you can also unlock Magneto from X-Men.

Akuma Update Launches in Street Fighter 6: Unleash the Raging Demon!

Akuma has been in Street Fighter 6 for less than a day, but fans have already found two secret super moves he can do. The trick? You can only use them after his secret taunt – where Akuma sits on the ground and eats a rice ball for 30 seconds.

Most characters have only three super moves, but Akuma has seven, counting the two hidden ones not listed in the game. Even though these moves are secret, fans on social media quickly found the hidden taunt and the special moves.

Akuma Update launches in Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 Akuma and Season 2 Patch Notes
Street Fighter 6 Akuma and Season 2 Patch Notes

The first secret move is done by doing two-quarter circles back and pressing the kick button. This move is a callback to Kage’s V-Trigger 1 from Street Fighter 5, Rikudo Osatsu. The second secret move is done by pressing down, down, and all three punch buttons. This move is his super move from Street Fighter 5.

That’s not all! While in this special state, Akuma can also do his classic double air fireballs by doing a quarter circle back and pressing two punch buttons while jumping forward. The best part is that it doesn’t cost any meter.

However, these moves aren’t very useful in competitive play because the taunt makes Akuma sit with his back to his opponent for 30 seconds. Still, it’s a fun Easter Egg, and as the popular fighting game streamer Maximilian Dood says, it gives Akuma players a funny way to start Evo matches.

Akuma was added to Street Fighter 6 just today, which has made more people interested in the game.

According to SteamDB, there were 70,000 players on Steam today, much more than the usual 5,000 to 25,000 players before the update. Akuma is a classic boss from the Street Fighter series, first appearing in Street Fighter II, so it’s no surprise that fans are excited about his addition.

Activision is reportedly aiming to release this year’s Call of Duty, expected to be called Black Ops 6, in late October 2024. This follows teasers found in Warzone, acknowledged by developer Treyarch. Microsoft is also rumored to be planning to add the Call of Duty back catalog to Game Pass before Black Ops 6 is released.

Helldivers 2 Developer Arrowhead Gets New CEO, Focuses on Creative Future

The co-op third-person shooter, published by PlayStation and developed by Arrowhead Games, was released in February and sold 12 million copies in three months. It is now PlayStation’s fastest-selling game, even bigger than God of War, Spider-Man, or Uncharted.

Helldivers 2 Developer Arrowhead Gets New CEO

Arrowhead Game Studios has named Shams Jorjani as its new CEO, replacing company founder Johan Pilestedt. Pilestedt will stay on as chief creative officer and chairman. This change follows the huge success of Helldivers 2, which sold 12 million copies since its release in February on PS5 and PC.

Jorjani has a lot of experience in the gaming industry. He spent 12 years in senior roles at Paradox Interactive, chaired indie publisher Hooded Horse, and advises various game businesses.

Pilestedt explained to GamesIndustry.biz that having a dedicated CEO will allow him to focus more on game creation while providing the company with strong leadership.

He realized he had to choose between his passion for creating games and managing the business as the company grew beyond 120 developers.

Over the past year, as they launched Helldivers 2, he found himself spending more time on business matters and less on creative work. This led him to reach out to Jorjani about becoming the new CEO.

    Also Read:

Jorjani said that his role will be to provide organization and leadership. He wants to set up the team for consistent success, allowing Pilestedt and the team to focus on making great games. His experience at Paradox, where he helped grow the company, will help Arrowhead Game Studios run smoothly and effectively.

The goal is to support Johan and the team in creating more games like Helldivers by building a strong structure around them.
