The Last of Us On Steam: Creator Confirms Launch!

The trouble with smothering human suffering is that it isn’t miserable enough. Sometimes I’ll be out to a beautiful meal, perusing plants at a garden center, or strolling aimlessly through a golden cornfield as dusk settles in. In any case, that’s over now.

The Last of Us, a bleak post-apocalyptic survival game, is coming to PC on March 3 of next year, and according to Steam Deck, I’ll be able to play it wherever and whenever I like.

On Twitter, TLoU creator and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann broke the news. Druckmann assured a concerned player: [TLoU characters] Ellie and Joel will grace the Steam Deck. Don’t fear! when asked about the game’s deck compatibility.

So don’t worry; when the game launches on PC next year, you’ll be able to satisfy your penchant for gloominess wherever you happen to be. Of course, Druckmann doesn’t specify how well it’ll run, so you might lose framerate or fidelity to get it running in your hands, but it’s still an amazing boast for the Deck.

Even though there is already a spruced-up version of The Last of Us on PS4, The Last of Us Part 1 is one of the few console games that insists on being played exclusively on a PS5. The fact that the Deck appears to be able to compete with this cutting-edge gadget speaks volumes about its capabilities.

In contrast to Steam’s $70 or £70 default price point for new games, where Sony and others have gone all in, Sony’s The Last of Us is a nostalgic $60 or £50. It’s something I’m eager to get my hands on.

Although the original game wasn’t quite the best of its kind, it did have a compelling tale, excellent acting, and an engaging setting. It will be liberating to play it on PC, and yes, on Steam Deck instead of a limiting console.

This isn’t the only PlayStation 4 exclusive to have washed up on our shores. Sony also revealed that the PC port of the roguelike shooter Returnal is coming soon (ish).

However, a firm release date for that one has not been set. If SteamDB is any indicator, it will also run on the Deck when it eventually launches, despite presently being labeled as “coming soon” on Steam. In my opinion, this is a golden age for PC gamers.

Frequently asked questions

Will The Last of Us come to Steam?

The PC version of The Last of Us: Part 1 will be out on March 3. Both the Steam and Epic Game stores feature this prominently. If you have a PS4 or PS5 and a PC, you can use the PlayStation Remote to try playing TLOU on the computer.

Why The Last of Us is not on PC?

There will be a delay in the release of The Last of Us Part 1 on PC. Its original release date of March 3, 2023 has been pushed back to March 28, 2023. Naughty Dog can then make sure it meets its own lofty expectations.
