Mega Altaria is the mega-evolved form of Altaria, a dragon and fairy-type Pokemon that is popular in the Great League of Pokemon Go. Mega Altaria was introduced in May 2023, along with a new feature called Postcards, which allows players to collect different patterns of Vivillon.

But is Mega Altaria good in Pokemon Go? How does it compare to other mega-evolutions and dragon-type Pokemon? In this article, we’ll examine Mega Altaria’s stats, moveset, and performance in various aspects of Pokemon Go.

Mega Altaria’s Stats and Moveset

How To Beat Mega Altaria
How To Beat Mega Altaria

Mega Altaria has the following stats in Pokemon Go:

  • Max CP: 3576
  • Attack: 222
  • Defence: 218
  • Stamina: 181
  • Type: Dragon and Fairy

Mega Altaria has a decent attack stat, a good defence stat, and a moderate stamina stat. It also has a unique typing that gives it several resistances and few weaknesses.

Mega Altaria resists bug, dark, dragon, electric, fighting, fire, grass, and water-type attacks, and is only weak to fairy, ice, steel, and poison-type attacks.

Mega Altaria can learn the following moves in Pokemon Go:

  • Fast Moves: Dragon Breath (dragon) and Peck (flying)
  • Charge Moves: Dazzling Gleam (fairy), Dragon Pulse (dragon), Sky Attack (flying), and Moonblast (fairy, elite)

Mega Altaria’s best fast move is Dragon Breath, which deals high damage and generates energy quickly. Peck is a weaker and less useful option. For charge moves, Dazzling Gleam is the most powerful and versatile move, as it can deal super effective damage to dragon, dark, and fighting-type Pokemon.

Dragon Pulse is a good alternative, as it can also hit dragon-type Pokemon hard, and has a lower energy cost. Sky Attack is a decent move, but it doesn’t benefit from Mega Altaria’s typing or boost other Pokemon’s attacks. Moonblast is an elite move that can lower the opponent’s attack, but it has a high energy cost and a low chance of activating the effect.

Mega Altaria’s Performance in Raids

Mega Altaria is not a very impressive Pokemon in raids, as it lacks the raw power and speed of other mega evolutions and dragon-type Pokemon. Mega Altaria’s best role in raids is to provide a 30% boost to other dragon and fairy-type Pokemon’s attacks, as well as a 10% boost to flying-type Pokemon’s attacks.

However, there are not many raid bosses that are weak to these types, and there are better mega options for each type. For example, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Salamence, and Mega Garchomp are superior dragon-type mega evolutions, Mega Gardevoir and Mega Mawile are better fairy-type mega evolutions, and Mega Charizard Y and Mega Pidgeot are more effective flying-type mega evolutions³.

Mega Altaria can still be used as a raid attacker, especially against raid bosses that are weak to fairy-type attacks, such as dragon, dark, and fighting-type Pokemon.

However, Mega Altaria’s damage output is not very impressive, and it can be outperformed by other fairy-type Pokemon, such as Togekiss, Gardevoir, and Xerneas. Mega Altaria’s dragon-type attacks are also not very useful in raids, as most dragon-type raid bosses are either resistant or immune to dragon-type attacks.

Mega Altaria’s Performance in PvP

Mega Altaria is a much better Pokemon in PvP than in raids, as it can take advantage of its high defence, unique typing, and versatile moveset. Mega Altaria is especially good in the Ultra League, where it can compete with some of the top Pokemon, such as Giratina, Cresselia, Registeel, and Swampert.

Mega Altaria can also perform well in the Master League, where it can challenge some of the legendary Pokemon, such as Dialga, Mewtwo, and Kyogre. However, Mega Altaria is not very viable in the Great League, where it is outclassed by its non-mega form, Altaria, which has a lower CP and a better moveset.

Mega Altaria’s best moveset for PvP are Dragon Breath and Dazzling Gleam, as they can deal consistent damage and cover its weaknesses. Dragon Pulse can be used as a second charge move, as it can provide some extra damage and pressure. Sky Attack and Moonblast are not recommended, as they are less effective and more costly than Dazzling Gleam.

Mega Altaria’s main strengths in PvP are its bulk, its resistances, and its ability to deal super-effective damage to many common Pokemon. Mega Altaria can also benefit from its mega boost, as it can enhance the attacks of its teammates and allies.

However, Mega Altaria’s main weaknesses in PvP are its low attack, its vulnerability to charm users, and its reliance on Dazzling Gleam for damage. Mega Altaria can also be countered by some of the top Pokemon in each league, such as Melmetal, Togekiss, and Galarian Stunfisk in the Ultra League, and Metagross, Groudon, and Yveltal in the Master League.

Conclusion

Mega Altaria is a decent Pokemon in Pokemon Go, but it is not a top-tier mega evolution or dragon-type Pokemon. Mega Altaria’s best use is in PvP, where it can excel in the Ultra League and the Master League, thanks to its high defence, unique typing, and versatile moveset.

Mega Altaria’s worst use is in raids, where it is outclassed by other mega evolutions and dragon-type Pokemon, and has a limited role as a support Pokemon. Mega Altaria is a good Pokemon to collect and use, but it is not a must-have or a game-changer in Pokemon Go.
