Helldivers 2 is currently Playstation’s largest Steam launch, with over 150,000 concurrent users on the PC platform over the weekend.
Until now, Sony Santa Monica’s God of War remake had the record with 73,529 simultaneous users, which is less than half of Helldiver 2’s current top of 155,926.

Helldivers 2 has not only become PlayStation’s most successful PC release, but it has also doubled the previous major hit God of War. This weekend, Helldivers 2 recorded a peak concurrent player count of 155,926; earlier, God of War held the record with 73,529 peak concurrent players.
It stated on Friday that Helldivers 2 had outperformed PlayStation’s previous releases, but with server issues and unfavorable reviews on the way, further growth was not certain. Cooperative third-person shooters are undeniably popular.
The statistics are provided by SteamDB, a tracking service.
Helldivers 2 is a cooperative third-person shooter that chronicles the tongue-in-cheek narrative of the massively propagandized and xenophobic Helldivers of future Super-Earth, whose job is essentially to go about murdering as many aliens as possible in battles over resources that Super-Earth initiated.
It has some very cool features up its sleeve, not the least of which are live human game masters who tamper with participants.
Despite this, it had a somewhat rocky start, with several server issues and crashes. The first few patches fixed a lot of stuff, and it’s already in much better form, if not completely trouble-free.

As a perhaps-too-big lover of the original Helldivers, I’m finding Helldivers 2 to be just what I was looking for. It’s a chaotic, cooperative, and skill-based third-person shooter that takes the greatest elements of the previous game and expands them into three dimensions—the Grand Theft Auto 3 to the original Helldivers’ Grand Theft Auto.
