Game Awards 2023 Winners List

The winners were chosen by a combined vote between a jury of over 100 video game media and influencer outlets and a public vote via the official website and social media platforms. Here are some of the highlights from the winners list:

Game of the Year

The most coveted award of the night went to Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. The game is a role-playing game based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe that allows players to create their own characters and explore a vast open world with turn-based combat.

Best Game Direction

The award for best game direction went to It Takes Two by Hazelight Studios. The game is a co-op platformer that follows a couple who are turned into dolls by their daughter’s magic book. They have to work together to overcome various obstacles and challenges in their fantastical world. The game has been lauded for its creative level design, charming characters, humorous dialogue, and emotional storytelling.

The game also features dynamic gameplay mechanics that change depending on how players cooperate or compete with each other.

It Takes Two beat out three other nominees: God of War Ragnarök by Santa Monica Studio, Hades by Supergiant Games, and Returnal by Housemarque. All four games are innovative titles that offer unique experiences in their respective genres.

The award for best adaptation went to The Last of Us Part II by Naughty Dog.
