Tandem: A Tale of Shadows and The Evil Within 2 are the free games available on the Epic Games Store from October 26 to November 2. The Epic Games Store may not have an extensive mystery game campaign in October as it does in December, but that doesn’t mean the digital storefront can’t celebrate the Halloween season.
Eternal Threads and The Evil Within are the latest Epic Games Store free games, both of which are available from October 19 until October 26. The Evil Within is a survival-horror game created by Shinji Mikami, well-known as the developer of the Resident Evil franchise.
Eternal Threads is a first-person puzzle game, whereas The Evil Within is a survival-horror game. Endless Threads and The Evil Within will be removed from the Epic Games Store free games lineup on October 26 at 10:00 am local time and replaced by Tandem: A Tale of Shadows and The Evil Within 2, with Epic Titles Store users having a week to claim those free titles as well.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows and The Evil Within 2 will be available for free on the Epic Games Store from October 26 to November 2, overlapping with Halloween. Given this, it’s no surprise that the games complement the macabre occasion nicely. Tandem: A Tale of Shadows is a puzzle platformer with scary visuals, whereas The Evil Within 2 is another survival-horror game from Tango Gameworks.

Story-driven puzzle game or pure survival horror? 🧩😨
No need to choose, Eternal Threads and The Evil Within are BOTH free this week! https://t.co/HtftoaoJlW pic.twitter.com/m67Bg343zz

Both games are ideal for Halloween. The original Evil Within is known for being more of a pure horror game. In contrast, The Evil Within 2 has a little more action and even some open-ended parts that explore open-world level design, yet remaining a survival-horror title.

The free games are theirs to keep forever as long as Epic Games Store users claim them during their window of availability. The same will be true for the free mystery games on the Epic Games Store, which are expected to return in December.
Unlike the regular Epic Games Store free games, which are given on a weekly basis, the mystery games are published on a daily basis, acting as a sort of advent calendar to keep EGS customers coming back each day while the launcher has its major Christmas sale.
