The creator of the popular action role-playing game Elden Ring, FromSoftware, revealed earlier this year that it was creating additional DLC for the title. With the working title Shadow of the Erdtree, the DLC was anticipated to debut in 2023.
After all, it felt like FromSoftware would have plenty of time to release it before the end of the year since it was announced so early in the year. It now appears that might not be the case, and fans will have to wait much longer than anticipated to start watching new Elden Ring content.
The parent business of FromSoftware, Kadokawa, has published its financial statements for the previous fiscal year, as noted by Gamingbolt.
It shouldn’t be unexpected given how effectively Elden Ring dominated the gaming industry for months after its release. The business made sure to remark in that report that it was a huge sales success.
However, by examining Kadokawa’s prediction for the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2024, crucial information for the DLC can be found.
Shadow of the Erdtree isn’t listed there, as you can see. Instead, it consists solely of Armored Core 6 and a number of new games from Spike Chunsoft, along with a selection of the company’s mobile goods.
Under “medium to long-term direction,” Elden Ring’s DLC is mentioned, which might mean a number of things. The most obvious explanation would be that they simply aren’t ready to reveal the date just yet and are exercising additional caution because they are aware that supporters are eagerly anticipating it.
Kadokawa states that it is “pursuing the maximization of profit by prolonging the life of the IP,” demonstrating its dedication to Elden Ring. Again, given how popular that game has become, this news is not shocking, but it is still important to note.

The alternative is that readers won’t be able to get their hands on Shadow of the Erdtree until after April 1, 2024. Armored Core 6 would be the sole FromSoftware game on the books for this year as a result of its release occurring in the next fiscal year.
Depending on the DLC’s size, that is definitely a possibility. However, given the early 2023 announcement of Shadow of the Erdtree, it seems unlikely that we’ll have to wait so long to play the DLC for Elden Ring.
