AMD Radeon RX 7800 is the rumoured name of the upcoming midrange graphics card from AMD, based on the RDNA 3 architecture that powers the high-end Radeon RX 7900 series. The RX 7800 is expected to compete with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4070, offering similar performance and features at a lower price point.

But when will the RX 7800 launch, and what can we expect from it in terms of specs, price, and benchmarks? Here’s everything we know so far.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 Release Date Rumors

AMD has not officially announced the RX 7800 series yet, so we don’t have a confirmed release date for the card. However, we can make educated guesses based on leaks and speculation.

According to a report from Sportskeeda, AMD plans to launch the RX 7800, 7700, and 7600 cards in June 2023, possibly at the China 618 event on June 18. This event is one of the biggest online shopping festivals in China, and it could be a good opportunity for AMD to showcase its new products to a large audience.

However, this rumour should be taken with a grain of salt, as it comes from an unnamed source and has not been verified by AMD or any other reliable outlet. Moreover, June 2023 seems a bit too early for AMD to launch its midrange RDNA 3 cards, considering that the high-end RX 7900 series launched in December 2022, and AMD usually waits at least six months before releasing lower-tier GPUs.

Rumours are suggesting that AMD plans to release the Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT graphics cards in Q3 of 2023, both of which will be built on the RDNA 3 GPU architecture:

A more plausible release window for the RX 7800 series could be September or October 2023, which would mark one year since the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 4070. This would give AMD enough time to ramp up the production and supply of its RDNA 3 chips and gauge the market demand and competition. It would also coincide with the holiday season, which is usually a peak time for PC gaming hardware sales.

Of course, these are just predictions based on past trends and current rumours, and they could change depending on various factors, such as chip shortages, pricing strategies, and consumer feedback. Until AMD officially reveals the RX 7800 series, we can only wait and hope for the best.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 Specs Predictions

While we don’t have any official specs for the RX 7800 series yet, we can make some assumptions based on the existing RDNA 3 cards and some leaked information.

According to a tweet from hardware leaker All_The_Watts, the RX 7800 will feature Navi 32 GPU with 60 compute units (CUs), translating to 3840 stream processors. This is half the number of CUs in the flagship RX 7900 XTX, which has Navi 31 GPU with 120 CUs (7680 stream processors).

The tweet also claims that the RX 7800 will have 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus, the same amount and type of memory as the RX 7900 XT. However, the memory bandwidth could be lower on the RX 7800 due to lower clock speeds or different memory compression techniques.

The tweet also suggests that the RX 7800 will have a total board power (TBP) of 260W, significantly lower than the RX 7900 XT’s TBP of 350W. This means the RX 7800 will likely run cooler and quieter than its bigger brother and consume less power.

As for the features and performance of the RX 7800 series, we can expect them to support all the benefits of the RDNA 3 architecture, such as second-generation ray accelerators for improved ray tracing performance, Infinity Cache for reduced memory latency and bandwidth consumption, Smart Access Memory for better CPU-GPU communication, FidelityFX Super Resolution for upscaling games without sacrificing quality, and more.

The RX 7800 series should also be able to handle most games at high settings and resolutions, such as 1440p or even 4K in some cases. Based on some leaked benchmarks from PCGamesN, the RX 7800 could trade blows with the RTX 4070 in rasterized workloads while falling behind in ray tracing scenarios. However, these benchmarks are not official or verified by AMD or Nvidia, so they should be taken with a pinch of salt.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 Price Predictions

Again, we don’t have any official information on the pricing of the RX 7800 series yet. Still, we can make some guesses based on AMD’s previous pricing strategies and the current market situation. According to the same tweet from All_The_Watts, the RX 7800 will have a suggested retail price of $549, slightly cheaper than the RX 6800 launched with a $579 MSRP.

This would also make the RX 7800 $50 cheaper than the RTX 4070, which has a $599 MSRP. However, these prices are likely to change depending on the availability and demand of the cards, as well as the competition from Nvidia and other factors.

Moreover, these prices are for the reference models of the cards, which may or may not be available at launch. The custom models from AMD’s board partners, such as Asus, MSI, Sapphire, and others, could have different prices and features.

In any case, we hope that AMD can offer the RX 7800 series at a reasonable and competitive price while ensuring enough supply and stock for the consumers. The RX 7800 series could be an excellent option for gamers who want a powerful and affordable GPU that can handle most games at high resolutions and settings.
