A Halo game built with Unreal Engine 5 is rumored to be in the works at 343 Industries; fingers crossed it’s a decent one.
At the time of writing, the Halo franchise is in a bad way. The most recent game in the franchise, Halo Infinite, has only recently made a comeback after years of post-launch support upgrades, and it still has a long way to go.
New Halo game in Development
Then there’s the godawful Halo TV show, which is receiving a second season despite fan anger.
But don’t worry, Xbox enthusiasts, there’s a ray of hope on the horizon. Another game is supposedly in the works with 343 Industries, however little is known about it at this moment. However, if the reports are correct, it has been under development since early 2022.
According to Justin Dinges’ LinkedIn, who worked on Halo 4 and Halo 5 before eventually becoming Game Director for Halo Infinite, they worked as an Art Director on “Halo’s next unannounced release” from April 2022 until March 2023.
Ian Slutz’s LinkedIn profile lends legitimacy to the report. Slutz worked for 343 Industries for several years as a Senior Character Systems Designer, and his job description has recently been changed to cover “player systems and assets in Unreal Engine 5.”
Take this with a grain of salt, as 343 Industries and Xbox have yet to acknowledge the existence of another game. Halo Infinite was widely expected to last fans a decade, with upgrades to both singleplayer and multiplayer offering expansion-type material. While the multiplayer is still receiving updates in the form of new seasons, it appears that the single-player DLC has been canceled, lending credence to the possibility of a new game.
The only thing we can do now is wait and see what happens later this year, though with the last several games being very underwhelming additions to the series, fan expectations aren’t great.
