Star Citizen Roadmap: In a roadmap update released on October 26, 2022, CIG stated: We have started testing Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 with the Evocati team, and we hope to release the next test sometime this week. After reviewing the results of our last Evocati test, we have set the official release of version 3.18 for the first week of December, as we previously announced.

The 2952 IAE scheduled for release in Alpha 3.17.4 is unaffected by this revision. Also, as the Drake Corsair will be released in time for IAE, its card has been moved from the 3.18 column to the 3.17 column on Release View. More features have been confirmed and locked in for Alpha 3.18:

Placement of new rivers and lakes on Microtech and Hurston, as well as the establishment of biome-specific item rulesets pertaining to bodies of water. Designing a Sand Cave Archetype: Defining its Visual Language, Production Pipeline, and Quality Bar. With this rollout, cave systems conforming to this blueprint will be scattered over the Stanton galaxy.

The reopening of Security Post Kareah will provide it a more crucial role in protecting Stanton. Crusader Security has relocated permanent personnel on the ship and has begun stockpiling illegal goods. All non-authorized individuals are strictly prohibited from entering the station.

The platforms built for Siege of Orison will eventually be dispersed over the planet Crusader, allowing for the creation of additional content like the new missions Bounty, Assassinate, and Clear All.

This is in addition to the established infrastructure of the Daymar Crash Site, which includes a derelict settlement of Starrunner and 600i connected by a junker town. In addition, GreyCat PTV Race Track is dedicated to… Nonetheless, some have speculated that it could be released alongside Alpha 3.17.4.

Still, there are a number of features that have been discussed for 3.18 but have not been confirmed as of yet.

  • Changing How We Transport Goods
  • Prison Games for the Sandbox
  • Vultures, Repair, and Salvage
  • PES (Persistent Entity Streaming) (Persistent Entity Streaming)

While a lot might happen in the meantime, CI has assured us that the December Release to Live with all that material is still on track. On the spectrum, I came across the following message: To say this was a letdown would be an understatement. Since we skipped the last round, I was hoping for more.

Remember, the absence of bad news is itself good news. That, at least, is the case as of this writing. Some players were hoping for additional information about Alpha 3.17.4, but thus yet, there hasn’t been anything released.

FreeFly, Exhibit, New Ships & Concepts, Huge Old Ship Sale, Jax McCleary Shorts… 2952 IAE It is a huge convention where numerous shipbuilders show off their wares each day. As an added bonus, the Drake Corsair will soon be made available for public flight, and there may be additional events to participate in as well.

Potential bug fixes and balance changes could be included in Alpha 3.17.4. Likewise, the Progress Tracker was updated to reflect the fact that a significant amount of work on some of the SQ42 chapters had been postponed.

There was a similar thread in Spectrum Pyro and 4.0, and the original poster there said: Honestly, I’d be surprised if we got 4.0 next year. After reading through all of the items on the roadmap following this week’s post, I am beginning to believe that if Server meshing is scheduled to begin testing in Q2 or Q3 of next year, we will not receive it until Q4 or Q1-2 of 2024.

With every patch, my hopes for Squadron 42 seem to be dashed. It’s highly unlikely that CIG is unaware that Squadron 42 is still years away, especially because, up until recently, all chapters had been marked as complete on the roadmap.

Since the space genre is so underrepresented beyond SC, Elite, and NMS, I really hope it won’t be another decade before something is done about it. There’s nothing to look forward to because every other project, including BGE 2 and Starfield, has been delayed indefinitely.

Reply From Jake Accapella, CIGS

To be clear, the majority of the Squadron teams are located downstream, which is why the Squadron chapters were able to advance. They only look one quarter ahead, thus the fourth quarter was added in today’s release.

At this point, I would guess that the publication of SQ42 will occur within two years. However, my hopes for future releases have been repeatedly dashed, leaving me feeling like a pretty incompetent firebreather.

There was a discussion on Reddit that I found intriguing in which someone suggested that freelancers be equipped with remote turrets. That’s an excellent concept, in my opinion. There may be some logic to it. Without a way to handle the ship’s weapons, the four stations in the ship’s nose look unnecessary. The idea of turning the manned turret into a remote one makes sense. That would free up some space at the ship’s rear for things like cars and stacks of cargo.

They say the Freelancer was designed with four seats so that everyone could have a seat and the side guns could be operated remotely. Consequently, it’s possible that it’s merely an outdated remnant. Eventually, I’m sure CIG will make some adjustments there.

I also came across a forum whereby the FPS Railgun was essentially deemed to be extremely overpowered. @CIG To my understanding, the railgun is inferior to the area in size 7 cannon in terms of damage. The Ares Starfighters shouldn’t be able to take down a portable railgun.

While other things like air defense and ground-to-air combat are constructed and balanced out, I believe its primary purpose is to provide soldiers on the ground with a strong fighting chance in the short run.

Its current ability to one-shot a variety of lesser ships makes it a little too powerful. which is precisely what the Ares ION was supposed to prevent for CI. However, this is possible with a fast-traveling FPS weapon that is extremely accurate.
