Silent Hill
Since Silent Hill: Downpour came out in 2012, it has been a while since the mainline installments of the legendary horror game series, which launched on PSOne in 1999. It seems that Silent Hill’s creator, Masahiro Ito, is involved since he tweeted a countdown to Sunday’s reveal and subsequently retweeted it.
For the first three games in the Konami horror series, Ito was not only the art director but also responsible for creating many of the games’ monsters. It said in 2020 that he will be releasing new work. I’m working on a title as a core member,” Ito tweeted. I really, hope that the title doesn’t get canceled. I have nothing to share with you at this time,” he said.
In particular, “Silent Hill: The Short Message,” a yet-to-be-announced installment in the Silent Hill series, was just given a rating by South Korea’s Game Rating Commission. The game was published by UNIANA, a firm that often releases Konami titles in South Korea.
In February of last year, VGC broke the news that Konami was working on resurrecting the dormant horror game series. A playable teaser is one rumored work currently under production. Concept art for the project, allegedly created by Masahiro Ito and dated October 20, 2020, surfaced on the internet early this year.
Numerous sources have said that a remake of Silent Hill 2 is currently being worked on. Last month, images purportedly from the remake’s early demo surfaced online. In addition to directing the 2006 Silent Hill film, Christophe Gans is said to have authored the screenplay for a new live-action adaptation.
Bloober Team, developers of The Medium, is often mentioned in connection with the Silent Hill series. Bloober’s CEO said that the company was adapting an existing horror IP from “a very prominent game publisher” for development last year, but then the Polish developer announced a “strategic co-operation arrangement” with Konami in the following months.
Akira Yamaoka, a composer for Silent Hill, also contributed to Bloober’s 2021 release The Medium, and has hinted that his next game project is “the one you’ve been expecting to hear about.”
