The Game Awards 2022: Elden Ring won Game of the Year at last night’s The Game Awards, as many had predicted would happen. However, something odd was happening behind them as director Hidetaka Miyazaki, his translator, and the rest of the cast joined the stage.

There was a child hiding. A teen, perhaps. Everyone on Twitter was enquiring as to his identity because he seemed out of place among the Japanese guys in their middle age who were gathered there. a kid of theirs? After that, he seized the microphone.

He was swiftly escorted off stage after it became apparent he wasn’t permitted to be there. The Game Awards host and organizer Geoff Keighley tweeted shortly after that he had been taken into custody. The internet then positively exploded with jokes, memes, and just general disbelief as people tried to make sense of what they had just seen.

Here’s what we think we know about this boy and what he was doing there; I won’t mention his name, though, as it seems he’s a minor.

• A tweet about the disruption that purportedly belonged to the child claimed credit. It’s an old account connected to his earlier online protests against Hong Kong’s oppressive government and police violence.
• This same child previously disrupted a World of Warcraft panel in 2019 at BlizzCon by yelling “Free Hong Kong,” which was recorded on this Twitter account.
• He appeared on TV during a Clippers game in 2019 while holding out a Hong Kong passport.

• He has a TikTok that focuses primarily on Hong Kong, and he occasionally adopts an accent like the one used in this rambling Game Awards speech.
• Most bizarrely of all, he spoke about his rallies in Hong Kong on the conspiracy network InfoWars two years ago, which referred to him as “one of the young stars of the conservative movement.”
• Unverified DMs of him making the assertion that he would pull this walk-on stage prank ahead of time and posting in the minutes before it has been published.
• It turns out that he follows me on Twitter, so I have asked him to confirm his identity and provide some context for his actions on stage. I will update you if I hear back from him.

Of course, what he said when he stood up there had nothing to do with Hong Kong, and while references to his “reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton” were absurd, they did have the air of a Clinton-related anti-Semitic plot, of which there are countless internet variations.

Or perhaps he’s simply a youngster trolling. However, this goes beyond simple humor because it indicates a significant security violation for Keighley and The Game Awards, a program that received 85 million viewers for the last time in 2021.

It’s simple to picture a different scenario in which a troubled kid wandered up on stage during an event watched by tens of millions of people full of industry celebrities, and things could have gone… very badly, if he had malicious intent.

While the kid just went up there and uttered nonsense, it’s easy to picture this happening in that scenario. After this, security procedures will need to be reviewed, as well as how he got to the concert in the first place, how he was able to enter the stage uninvited, why he was left there for so long, and how he was even let to speak without having his microphone cut.

So, that’s what we currently know. A young person who has previously performed in this manner is doing it on the greatest platform in the business. From here, we’ll see what happens, and I’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Update (11:50 AM): Okay, I spoke with him, and while I still believe that he is trolling, here is what I was able to learn from him:

• He claimed he was unable to speak about being detained.
• To carry out this strategy, he purchased a ticket from AXS and made sure he was seated somewhat close to the stage.
• He calls Bill Clinton his hero and claims that at the time he had no idea who else to honor with the prize.
• He claims that because it “wasn’t the proper moment,” he did not make a comment on Hong Kong as he has in the past, but he still supports the locals there.
• Elden Ring was played, and he said that it was a good game, although he reportedly stopped at the Tree Sentinel (so, right away?).
• He claims that because he purposely waited until Miyazaki had finished speaking before making his comment, he doesn’t believe he wrecked his big moment.
• Even though he is not fully elaborating on the “reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton” remark in a way that I can understand, he claims that he did not imply that Clinton is secretly Jewish, even though I implied that it was one of several globalist conspiracies. He asserts that he is Jewish.

• In conclusion, neither a far-right nor an anti-Semitic theme was present. Bill was the only person I could think of to receive the spotlight at that precise time.
