The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dawnguard: Downloadable content expansion Dawnguard for the action role-playing open-world video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game was created by Bethesda Game Studios and released by Bethesda Softworks. Dawnguard for Xbox 360 was released on June 26, 2012, in English-speaking territories, and in mid-July 2012 in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
On August 2, 2012, it was made available on Steam for Microsoft Windows. Dawnguard’s launch for the PlayStation 3 was pushed back from January to February 2013 because of performance issues.
The events of Dawnguard are based on a prophecy from an Elder Scroll. The Dawnguard is an organization committed to pursuing vampires that strive to block the rebirth of a strong clan of Vampires known as the Volkihar who hold the potential to morph into monstrous “vampire lords”.
The Volkihar’s leader Lord Harkon aims to use an Elder Scroll to forever blot out the sun. The player has the option of joining the Dawnguard and becoming a hero or joining the Volkihar and becoming a vampire lord. DLC offers different armor, goods, weapons, characters, etc.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dawnguard Gameplay
Dawnguard introduces two new skill trees: the vampirism tree and the lycanthropy tree. Players can choose to side with the vampire Volkihar Clan or with the Dawnguard, a group dedicated to destroying vampires. Players will be provided access to one of two home bases: Castle Volkihar or Fort Dawnguard.
The Dawnguard receives a new crossbow in addition to new armor and perks. Unlike bows, crossbows are always ready to fire, giving the player a significant advantage in reaction time, but at the cost of slower movement and reduced mobility when reloading. All points spent on the archery perk tree will also apply to crossbows since they are part of that tree. Bolts for crossbows can be enchanted to increase their magical damage.
Vampires can temporarily undergo a metamorphosis into a “vampire king.” The only difference from the standard werewolf transformation is that it can be utilized whenever you like rather than just once each day. The vampire lord has a new skill tree to level up.
In addition, a skill tree, which was previously unavailable, has been added to the werewolf class. There are eleven bonuses available to the vampire lord and eight to the werewolf. The vampire lord can advance in level by killing enemies with its Drain Life spell or its bite attack, while the werewolf can advance in level by eating corpses while in werewolf form.

Dawnguard introduces two new world spaces—the Soul Cairn, a region of Oblivion, and the Forgotten Vale, a remote freezing valley beyond the holdings of Haafingar and the Reach—both of which can be explored. Castle Volkihar, on an island off the coast of Haafingar, and Fort Dawnguard, in a small canyon outside the Rift, are two further examples of expansive locales that function as key quest hubs throughout the story.
In Riften’s Ragged Flagon, a new “face sculptor” NPC is introduced to the game, giving players the ability to alter their character’s look any way they see fit. There are additionally stronger “legendary” dragons in Dawnguard that can be slaughtered and absorbed by the player character in the same ways that regular dragons can (awarding an achievement). In addition, the dragon yells Drain Vitality, Soul Tear, and Summon Durnehviir have been introduced.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dawnguard Plot
There are a variety of ways for the player to jump into the expansion’s story arcs. The player character may overhear the town guards discussing the return of the Dawnguard, or an Orcish member of the Dawnguard named Durak may approach them and ask them to join the order to fight the rising threat of vampires in Skyrim.
The player character will eventually make their way to Fort Dawnguard, which is located near Riften and can be reached by way of Dayspring Canyon. Isran, commander of the Dawnguard, meets with them and reaffirms the renewed strength and threat posed by the vampires, pointing to the destruction of the Hall of the Vigilants, headquarters of the Vigilants of Stendarr in the Pale, and the death of Keeper Carcette as reasons to reform the Dawnguard and eradicate the vampires.
The player is equipped with a crossbow and told to journey to Dimhollow Crypt, a ruin in the Pale that vampires have been seen exploring. After fending off the vampires who have already arrived at the ruin, led by Lokil, the player finds Serana (played by Laura Bailey) trapped inside a statue.

She shows you an Elder Scroll and says her family lives in a place called Castle Volkihar off the coast of Skyrim, not far from Solitude. She begs the player to take her back to her house without any trouble.
Lord Harkon, leader of the powerful Clan Volkihar vampires, thanks the player for returning his daughter to him at Castle Volkihar and gives them the option to either become a vampire lord and join the clan or escape safely back to the Dawnguard. When you make this decision, Dawnguard’s primary storyline officially begins.
