Many projects in the gaming industry are created in silence, behind closed doors, adding to the air of mystery surrounding the sector. However, leaks continue to occur, and the September 2022 leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 is perhaps the most infamous of all time.
Over 90 films of early footage were shared throughout the world, making this leak may be the largest in video game history in terms of volume. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a statement that the leak does not appear to have harmed the game’s production timetable, which is excellent news for those eagerly awaiting the release of GTA 6.

In an interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick dismissed concerns that the leaks would harm GTA 6’s commercial prospects.
We take leaks very seriously indeed and they disappoint all of us, it’s really frustrating and upsetting to the team. However, as a business matter, we’re not affected. But as a personal matter and an emotional matter, our teams are affected.
As a result, we can assume that the schedule for creating GTA 6 has not changed.
It’s a Good Sign
According to Zelnick, Grand Theft Auto 6 is progressing well in development and may be available for purchase sooner than expected. The September 2022 leaked film seems rudimentary and underdeveloped, suggesting it was taken from a very early build. Since the game hasn’t been delayed from its original release date, we can safely presume this.
Perhaps the leaks would have had more of an effect on the development of the game if the footage had been taken from a more recent build. There are exceptions, but if the game is still on the time it’s conceivable the film was from a long time ago.
As it was, the footage did not sit well with all audience members due to its unpolished appearance (which makes sense, since the game is still in production). Although the early footage was rough around the edges, it’s encouraging to know that the leaks haven’t slowed down the game’s progress.
While the exact development level of the shown footage is unknown, it is safe to assume that Grand Theft Auto 6 is further advanced than it initially appears in the light of Zelnick’s comments.
Purchasing Extra Time
But the way Zelnick phrased his statement could buy the Rockstar team some extra time if they need it. Zelnick can claim that the leaks caused the Rockstar crew to be upset and affected them if the day comes when they need to change the GTA 6 internal schedule.
This is a roundabout approach to gaining investors’ patience before making a formal announcement. Since Take-Two is a publicly listed corporation, Rockstar is likely seeking to appease its investors by keeping the development and release dates of their games on track.

If this occurs, we will, unfortunately, have to wait longer for GTA 6. What’s another year or so when it’s been over a decade since the last update?
CEO Strauss Zelnick isn't concerned that the GTA 6 leaks might impact the business. But speaking to IGN ahead of Take-Two's earnings release today, he called them an "emotional matter" and focused on the impact to developers working on the game.https://t.co/0DwT3seuv5

Although the exact release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 remains unknown, it is possible that Rockstar may provide additional details later this year, teasing a possible release in 2024. After the massive 2022 leak, we can now relax knowing that the game has not moved its schedule.
